I love watching movies, but if it wasn't for Moviepass, which I have for me and my wife. I would be waiting for most movies to hit blu ray. Now we see at least a movie each weekend and sometimes 2-3. Just have to buy a ticket for my son when he wants to tag along.

So 1) stop being condescending, and telling other people they don't have lives, and 2) if you are so against movie pass, as all of your posts in this thread seem to indicate, then stop visiting the thread. ![]() Last edited by cinemaphile; 01-28-2018 at 07:37 PM. |

Also, how can they be negotiating for a percentage of concessions? How can that possibly be tracked, unless members are required to use their Moviepass card to pay for popcorn? |

Pre movie pass I was pretty much on Par with your 1 to 4 movies a month. Movie pass allows one to explore more movie choices and lower the risk of walking out feeling ripped off. I walked out of Thank you for your service and Coco for several factors. Almost walked out of The Post as well as I dozed off several times during that movie and I only had 20 mins to go so I decided to stay. MP made me feel like all I did was lose time with those movies and not so much on money. I mean I can't go to the Manager and say "This movie sucked I want my money back.." Some of the great movies I saw last year were not big sci fi block busters but the smaller ones. Without MP I wouldn't have spent the money to see them and would have missed out on some great films. Going everyday would be a challenge, if you go after work and have a family. You need to block out at least 3 to 4 hours for the movie and on top of that running time and trailers and travel time. Unless you live within walking distance and not working full time, then it would be difficult to do so going everyday. The only reason why I went every day during xmas break because I was off from work and I had the time to do so. Now I barely have time so I am back to 1 movie a week. I don't see the point of "Abusing the system". If all you are doing is point mining or selling your tickets to someone else at a discounted rate then yes it's total abuse and one should get banned for that. I doubt theater are making sure you are attending the movie you bought a ticket for. It would be a waste of time. As long as they are getting their full admission price for the ticket, they don't care if you don't show up. |

It's just like giving someone a life time supply of Subway and then someone going there everyday to get a Sub and then Subway getting mad about it. Even though Subway gave them it. Just seems like in general as of late on this site. That a lot of people want to look down on others and how to live their lives and that they're better. |

We know that we currently represent approximately 62% of AMC’s operating income, assuming that AMC is flat year over year. This equates to $34.4 million of gross profits to AMC in the upcoming quarter. On an annualized run rate basis, that’s over $135 million to AMC’s gross profits — which doesn’t include concession sales from MoviePass subscribers. So it looks like they're asking for 20% of 62% of concessions. The actual number MP is bringing in is 4.2%. From The Verge: That certainly sounds impressive at first glance — 62% is a substantial amount of AMC’s business. But the number MoviePass is looking at isn’t gross income, it’s operating income, the money left over after a company’s operating costs have been considered. The reference point here appears to be AMC’s financial report for Q1 2017, where the company posted $55.4 million in operating income. (Taking 62% of that gets you to MoviePass’ $34.4 million number.) But the $55.4 million figure isn’t actually a useful comparison at all. Theatrical exhibition is a notoriously expensive business, with the costs of maintaining and operating physical locations, fees paid to studios, and a host of other costs aggressively eating into AMC’s significantly larger gross income. Since MoviePass doesn’t help offset any of those operating costs for theater owners, the service appears to be conflating two different sets of numbers by comparing the gross admissions it generates for AMC against the chain’s post-costs income. That’s misdirection, if not outright deception. The real way to judge how much MoviePass contributes is to look at what a chain like AMC makes in admissions, the people buying tickets. There, the numbers are starkly different, with MoviePass representing a small fraction of the overall revenue. AMC posted Q1 2017 admissions revenue of $817.3 million. Using MoviePass’ own projection, its contributions to AMC’s revenue would actually amount to just 4.2 percent — hardly the windfall the MoviePass statement attempts to project. If I was AMC, I'd tell MoviePass to take a long walk off a short pier, too. Even if they're "only" asking for 20% of 4.2% of concessions, they're not entitled to that money. Theatres make money from concessions, more than tickets. Not surprised at how AMC has responded to MoviePass asking for a handout. It's fine to enjoy the service they're providing (until they raise rates and everyone starts flipping tables), but it appears they are not being honest. True, but how would MP (or anyone) know how many MP customers actually bought concessions? I never buy food at a movie theater. I'm only going to be there a few hours, and the ten bucks it would cost to get a drink & popcorn will buy me a full meal at the Chinese buffet across the street. Sounds like MP is trying to strongarm their way into money that they have no claim to.

As for concessions, if I'm hungry before a movie and cannot make it to a food place or don't have access to one, I'll get something. Most of my close by theaters are Regal and they have actually rock solid food there and the prices are actually reasonable. You can usually get a burger combo for under $10.00. As for AMC, I tried their flatbread pizza and let just say that I had pizzas from 7-Eleven that had more flavor. |

Movie pass has been a great experience to both my wife and I, unfortunately we were affected by the recent change as we fell in the AMC Veterans Tampa Fl this theater was literally 7 min away. Yes there are other theaters(20+ min in any direction)

![]() Yeah, some people go overboard. If the only thing you do in your free time is go to the movies with your MoviePass card, seeing a movie you saw a few times already, then you're just wasting precious time. Nothing wrong with going to the movies, but find other hobbies. Make some friends. |

I have over 500 movies at home but there is something about leaving my house and just enjoying time to myself without family, neighbors, etc. bugging me. I get my ticket, my snacks, shut off my phone, and I'm in a quiet & safe place. |
