Exactly. How inexpensive the UHD BD is makes this such a borderline non-issue . . . unless someone is wanting to "send a message"/"make a statement" by not buying the UHD. And the earlier you buy the UHD, the higher the re-sale value of the HD BD if you wanna drop the out-of-pocket cost of the UHD even further.

Just got myself a chroma downsampling laser projector. Basically it plays 4K without HDR but still, this UHD looks amazing on 100" screen!

Watched this on BD yesterday. The upscaled Blu looks great, and I don't see any need to upgrade to the UHD.

Have you seen the UHD HDR version of Oblivion?

Actually after owning Goodfellas, I promised myself that I would only buy new releases, but they must have good reviews. My local store has a 20% off sale for the next four days. Gonna grab Blade Runner 2049, Wonder Woman, GotG 2 and Dunkirk.

No, I haven't seen the 4K of Oblivion. Happy with the BD, Don't need to see it. Reviews are mixed at best.

I avoided buying the 4k version for a while because of mixed reviews but after picking it up cheap I wish I would have bought it sooner. The color/hdr looks great and makes the BR look dull, as for the sharpness it looked fine for me.

I saw it at my Target yesterday. I almost bought it. I enjoyed the movie but like others have stated, the reviews have scared me. Then again, $10 isn't much.

I love the UHD... Bit baffling the mixed opinions? All the light effects etc and the tech look so much better on the newer format. The scene in particular that smashes the BD is when Cruise character drops down that hole to find the sound he can only hear. The dark shadow detail in there is great.

I did rate the BD, but this is still an uptick worth getting. Plus you get Atmos on the UHD! And it's touted as demo worthy in parts

This is my UHD go-to demo when I want to remind myself how good this format is

Don't let reviews be the only thing preventing you from getting this movie. If you like the movie, and it's cheap, why not spend the $10 and see it for yourself? Personally, I thought the 4K movie looked better than the blu ray. So I'm happy with my purchase.

This is one of my 3 guilty pleasure movies. I love it so much, lol. It's really quite fascinating to me. You'll enjoy it if sci-fi is up your alley. The production design is top notch.

Heh, as with Batman Begins people can't quite grasp that it's GREAT in some areas but NOT SO GREAT in others. In Oblivion's case dat HDR is gorgeous but they've filtered off a ton of spatial detail vs the Blu-ray. That sharpness combined with this HDR grade would've made it a top 5 title for me, and I don't say that lightly. As it is, I'll still default to the UHD when I want to watch this movie in the future, I'll just sharpen the shit out of it as I do so.

Adding artificial sharpness from the TV will not improve the picture

it does in this case because it's SO soft that you can sharpen it up the ying-yang without causing the usual artefacts
