Bill is on fire this week. Also, the Matrix, Knowing, Jurassic Park Trilogy, Mission Impossible series, 2001, this has been an amazing week for the format, less so out wallets.

Seems logical that the 4Ks for these movies would release prior to Fallen Kingdom. Also, I feel as if the movie transfer for Jurassic Park that has been used in some concerts could be a new 4k scan of sorts. It looked really good projected on screen, and it definitely looked better than the current blu-ray release. Not sure if it was the 3D version but I don't recall the color palette having the same earthly tones as seen on this site's screenshots.

I'm going to refrain from getting excited until I know for sure it doesn't look anything like the 3D version.

Yeah, but even a lot of theaters still only use 2K projection. Doesn't need to be 4K to look great projected.

What I do know is the Blu-ray made the CGI look good, considering how low res and dated. So UHD should just scale that result.
I meant render, not scan. There was a rumor that prior to the JP releases on Blu-ray that they were possibly going to re-render them at higher resolutions, essentially like just redoing the CGI or something. Of course, purists cried loudly against it and that didn't happen anyway. Just didn't know if they would be considering it this time. Doubt it, though.

I know, but by looking great I meant that it didn't look like the blu-ray transfer, or even the 3D one. This was not in a theater, but at a concert where an orchestra would be playing the score of the film live while the actual film (with no music) would play on the screen.

All of the CG scenes were printed out to film and slugged into the negative. I highly doubt the rendering files exist anymore and even if they did, trying to get software that old to run on modern computers would be a pain not to mention the expense for doing such a thing.

So the CG is what it is and holds up much better than a lot of modern films in my opinion. A new scan will bring out lots of details in those shots. If Starship Troopers can benefit, so can Jurassic Park if Universal gives a shit.

Heck yeah.

I've held off on owning a few of these just because of how poor the reviews were.

Jurassic Park, Mission Impossible, and Back to the Future are up the at the top of the blu-rays I've boycotted as far as major franchises.I refused to buy the blu-rays. PLLLLEEEEAAAAASSSEEEEE do not screw up the UHD's. New 4K scans and no DNR please.

I'm not sure how these movies will turn out in 4k but we're talking Jurassic Park here....day one regardless.

Gotcha! As the other poster later said... the original render files and pipeline are long dead. This isn't like Pixar stuff where the nature of their films being totally constructed in the computer would change how the files are handled, at least in the 90's.

I'm sure the purists for JP were crying loudly because "re-scan" in that context where the original elements either don't exist or it's not viable for scaling and "re-rendering" on modern tech; would just be code for redo the CGI for modern standards. And, no. No. No, no, no, no, no!

I'm one of the ones that thinks the effects hold up, and that those pioneers of CGI should get to have their work live on. And Spielberg is a purist on this stuff at this point.
[Show spoiler](Now, I know the same argument is made for leaving Star wars original trilogy untouched but they were using outdated sfx techniques for some shots that look sloppy and like errors. And those parts being tweaked it fine...) Like, if in JP the dinosaurs at a distance looked funky with visible gradation lines or w/e they'd have cause to say it was shoddy work and let's update it

So can't wait for this. I didn't find the blu-rays bad like some... But I do hope they just bite the bullet and do a 6k overscan using current scanning tech. Why not future proof it with a Sony level offering.

Still... our sources tell us that Universal is currently preparing to bring Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park: The Lost World, Jurassic Park III, and Jurassic World to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray this summer, in anticipation of the June theatrical (and later home video) release of the new Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. I guess this is what happen when you show people a piece of shit of a master for more than twenty years..

To this very day Jurassic Park still have the most realistic CG of all time. Watch it on 35mm and you’ll see, nothing dated in it.. more like a window on the future actually.

Resolution could be a problem in 4K, but these animals in a proper faithful 35mm Master (aka NOT from Universal) will always look real.

Perhaps they anticipate it being a lower seller among MCU catalog, so they're using it as a test-bed for viability of the whole enterprise. Hulk is still Universal's to do with as they will AFAIK.
