I've been meaning to post something about this hd-dud ad campaign for a while.

Both in the print, movie theater and tv commercials, they play up Michael Imperioli as an actor and director/filmmaker. Absolute, pure f***ing fud. They're saying this in these ad's so you will supposedly take his word as a serious film professional that "HD-DUD" is the choice of the filmmaking community -- and they have shots of him standing next to a movie camera, talking to the DP like he knows what he's talking about... and at the editing system with his editor... yeah, ok.

I'm sure he's a nice guy and the money, free player and movies from the HD-DUD PR group was to tempting to resist.

But the truth is, Imperioli is an actor, sometimes writer (a few Soprano's episodes, summer of sam) and that's it. (credits here: http://imdb.com/name/nm0408284/)

The ad's try to sell him as a big filmmaker. It's stretching the truth to say the least.

Truth be told, the HD-DUD group probably couldn't get a big filmmaker to be in their ad campaign.

That said, the BD group will hopefully be more aggressive getting the endorsements they've already got from top of the line real filmmakers out to the general public... those by John Lassater, Jerry Bruckheimer, Ridley Scott... and hey, rope Spielberg in there too.

And a better ad campaign for HD-DUD would be Imperioli and the rest of Soprano's cast breaking into peoples homes, beating the crap out of and torturing people until they bought a hd-dud player and some movies. Which wouldn't be far from what they probably will really have to do to get the general public to buy hd-dud players. They tried free movies, price cuts... outside of giving the machines away, brute force might be the only way for the format to survive.
