Thank you, I don't give up easily!
![]() Luckily, our victories with getting vintage 3-D onto Blu-ray have far outweighed our disappointments. And it's comforting that the relatively few failures (Money from Home) have not been our fault. There's only so much you can do when individuals that lack vision and have no interest in the historic record are in the drivers seat. |

(I had a few paragraphs of my own irresponsible speculation on what may or may not be the situation here, but looks like I had it all wrong!)
It may not be such a good idea to comment publicly too much further on the parties involved if there is still a chance they can collaborate with 3DFA on the title. Maybe there is something I don't understand here, but it is hard to comprehend the logic to their plan in this day and age. I have to assume they have the best of intentions so I'll put my torch and pitchfork to one side and hold off denouncing them for the time being. An ideal outcome would be to involve the 3DFA to handle it as a digital restoration, with the unnamed archive perhaps facilitating additional expenses like 4k and wet-gate scans, and digital output to 35mm archival prints (if that is still a thing). |

So does this Archive own the US rights to the picture, and therefore gets to control what happens to the 35mm elements? That overrides the UK rights holder?
I'm glad they want to restore the elements. Hopefully, they'll decide to create a 3D scan with the 3-D Archive in the near future, so we can all enjoy the movie on Blu-ray 3D. Last edited by BleedOrange11; 02-04-2018 at 07:43 PM. |

No, all the rights are held by the copyright holder in the UK.
As I first said, it's not a locked door so hopefully something will happen down the road. But don't look for it anytime soon. |

Well that’s good to hear at least. Not many want to buy a movie made in 3D and watch it in 2D.

The 21 minutes really do add to the film and give the character's more depth.
And there is one dynamite off-screen 3-D shot that was cut! |

Bummed about the western, but still, The Maze, Sangaree and Jivaro coming this year should be pretty great! I've never seen any of them, but the diverse settings/genres of these three have me pretty excited to see each in restored 3D.

Believe me, nobody is more frustrated than I am with this recent development. I wanted to get this onto 3-D Blu-ray in 2018 for Mickey Spillane's centennial.
But I remain cautiously optimistic that once they are finished with their photo-chemical work, the copyright holder will reach out and allow us to do the digital 3-D restoration that we had initially proposed in December 2011. We want this film available worldwide so that everyone can experience John Alton's outstanding stereoscopic compositions. |

I do wish the 3-D Film Archive would undertake preserving another legit film for bluray release instead of the nudie-cutie double-feature that Bob refers to, which I think is a mistake for reasons I won't go into here. ![]() I don't have a poster for the third one but the World 3-D Film Expos exerted an influence. ... plus Ray Bradbury told me the Expo was the most fun he had in years. He really loved 3-D movies. Last edited by Richard--W; 02-06-2018 at 09:43 AM. |

I don't care what the titles are. If the 3D Film Archive is releasing it, I know I getting the best 3D and I'm buying it.

That being said, the nudie-cutie double-feature has historic value: ADAM AND SIX EVES was the last use of the venerable Natural Vision rig and is quite well photographed. BELLBOY AND THE PLAYGIRLS has 3-D footage written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. |

I couldn't care less about The Stewardesses. I have plenty of first-rate 3-D in the house so I don't need to be reminded of Chris Condon nor of our disasterous association.

I can usually be persuaded by the paycheck and historic value arguments and always by the invocation of Francis Ford Coppola. There's an interview where he talks about this film; definitely audio but it might also be video. Do you know the interview I mean? |
