Rhona Mitra was perfect as Lara, if this film was from 2008.

Those new posters are heaps better than the first two. I love both, but I prefer the running one. It looks more intense / gritty.

I'm really excited for this movie. I'm in the small majority that love the casting choice (Tomb Raider is more than breast size, and Alicia is perfect for the rebooted Lara from the game in every other way besides not having the bangs framing the face). It looks a damn lot better than the AJ movies, which people give far too much credit for and love all of a sudden now the new movie is coming out.

Contrary to many views in this thread, I think Alicia Vikander will nail this role, and we will get two or more sequels.

I love the new games. Just finished Rise of the Tomb Raider again. I think the casting is great all around. I just hope that WB doesn't "Justice League" this movie. They have been awful with studio interference lately. If the movie sucks, it'll be because of them.

Pretty stoked to see this though

See the thing is the character that Alicia is based on from the game doesn't have the charm and charisma that the Lara Jolie was based on had, if that makes sense. They are playing two completely different characters with only some of the same backstory in common. When AJ played Lara, the source material was comical and the character was sexualised, sarcastic and witty. This Lara isn't. She's serious.

I agree. This is another one of those situations where the first cinematic iteration of an iconic and beloved character derived from fiction - be it novels, comics, or video games - settles in the minds of the audience and fanbase as the definitive incarnation of that character, regardless of whether subsequent iterations of the same character are closer to the source material than the first attempt. It happened with Superman, whereby people are struggling to relinquish Christopher Reeve's time in the role as just one possible interpretation, and now it's happening with Lara Croft.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this but I personally think Vikander is a very weak and bland actress.

At least hoping for some good action scenes.

She has an Oscar that says otherwise. And she was Amazing in Ex Machina
