Amc plays his movies alot and i think they can be rented on dvd and red skelton did stand up comedy for many after his 1950s/1960s shows went off the air.

Atleast this can be said that his humor can be enjoyed by families or anyone but not of other comedy acts.

Not to mention his old-radio roots, which can explain almost a hundred 40's cartoon references that may have baffled us over the years (I dood it! )

And I still quote one of the jokes from his standup act, which showed up once on cable:
"Just wanted to announce, we've found a wallet, and we don't know whose it is--If any of you might've lost it, we'll be keeping it with the stage manager; her name is Helen Hunt, and you can pick it up from her in the lobby after the show...Just to repeat, if any of you in the audience have lost a wallet, you can go to Helen Hunt for it."

First and foremost, Red Skelton was a clown. He was one of our most brilliant clowns ever. And even though I've never liked clowns (sorry 'bout that, Mr. S), his other characters, physical comedy, and jokes made up for it. I grew up watching his show and loved him dearly.

I remember just dying for Thursday to roll around so I could watch his show on our 13" B&W RCA TV.

That MAN was dead even before my time but I got to know him as a comedion. He was trully the BEST, and I do mean the BEST there ever will be.

I mean come on, the man could make you laugh so hard you'd start teering up an fall out of your seat. And the man would never ONCE use a single swear word.

Look at all these so called comedions now adays. It seems that they can't make you laugh wihtout using a swear word in every sentence. And we cal that entertainment.

Getting a bit off topic. In my personally opinion, The only reason would choose to use swearing in their lanuage, is becasue they are not educated enough to use more approprate words. Its like the LAZY mans language. I mean seriously, what do they mean, seriouslly
-SH*T
-F*CK
-D*MN

I'm not in anyway triing to insult anyone. But seriously what do they mean. We gave them meanings.

LET THE SLAMMING BEGIN

Red Skelton was a very very funny guy and made everyone laugh. I was at an airport some 15 years ago and heard a multitude of uncontrolled laughter around the corner. I went over to see what what going on and to my surprise, there was Red on a skycab telling jokes to people walking and riding along with him -- all strangers to him -- without a pause. He was a natural.

I remember Jay Leno telling the story of when he was doing the press opening for some Vegas hotel:
Skelton was on his last-legs 80's, giving the speech about "29 stories of luxury, 29 stories of entertainment"...Fearing senility, Leno leaned over to remind Skelton it was a thirty-story hotel, and on cue, Skelton replied, "Yeah, but that's another story."
("90 years old and he STILL set me up!" )

Think about it. A guy goes on stage and literally tears apart people. (Rickels)

A buddy of mine saw him at the AC HILTON years ago. He was at that time

a little large . . . but a very nice chap . . .very sensitive . . . anywhooo..

the fellow and his Mom sat ringside . . .

Rickels didn't stop . . . .he humliated the guy to the point that he got up and left with his Mom in total disbelief that ANYONE would do a show, a bit,
based on someone elses (disability). It's like making fun of a guy with crutches or braces.

I think Don Rickels faux pax sincerity at the end of his act is even more disgusting.

Is that humor? What is it?

Red Skelton was so much more classy . . . more funny...than Rickels.

BTW his clown paintings are probably worth more today than 20 years ago.
