Man these recent TT covers have been looking pretty great. I mention this because they usually are ugly. Hope this keeps up.

Have you (or anyone) ever seen a Bridges film called The Last American Hero? Apparently the soundtrack features a song called "I Got A Name" by Jim Croce which I first heard on the Django Unchained soundtrack and really liked its 70s vibe, so it got me curious about THAT film.

I saw it years and years ago and I honestly don't remember much about it. I remember it as a standard racing biopic in the vein of Greased Lightning and Heart Like a Wheel. I would love to see it again just to find out if there was more to it than that.

I haven't. It features Bridges, Gary Busey, Ned Beatty and the beautiful Valerie Perrine though. Bridges evidently transitions from making moonshine to racing cars in it.

More specifically, "Last American Hero" has a rare alternate version (I believe that "Django" used the album version).

Fat City is John Huston's finest film, IMHO. A young Jeff Bridges is great in this, as he always is, however even better in this is Stacy Keach and Susan Tyrrell, who give one of the finest performances in their careers.

What a beautiful, downer film. I love this thing.

Downer film is right, particularly when
[Show spoiler]it seems like Keach's character is going to make a big boxing comeback only for that to fizzle out and he goes back to being a loser.
Such a 70s film.

Twilight Time: NEWS FLASH! 50 years ago, on February 19, 1968, the nominations for the 40th annual Academy Awards were announced, and to the surprise of many the lavish musical production DOCTOR DOLITTLE was nominated for 9 Oscars including Best Picture. Come see and hear it as it was meant to be seen and heard on Saturday, March 3rd at 3:00 p.m. (That's 3/3 @ 3 on Oscar eve!) when Fox's incredible 4k restoration has its U.S. premiere at the American Cinematheque's Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, co-presented by BAFTA. Joining us will be the film's star, Samantha Eggar, and songwriter/screenwriter Leslie Bricusse, who won the Best Original Song Oscar for "Talk to the Animals." Help us pack the house for this singular 50th anniversary treat!

Watched Strange Invaders last night, from the SAE sale. Hadn’t t seen this since I rented it aged 10-11. Wow, the acting was generally very poor and a lot of scenes were painful. I loved it. Just exactly as brilliantly bad as I remembered yet it’s so great at the same time. I think I could happily watch it every other month and never bore of it. It’s up there with The Stuff and Class of 1999 as all time guilty pleasures for me.

I realize you like the film but I don't know if I entirely agree with your comments. This was a clear homage to cheesy 50's sci-fi films so it was never meant to be taken seriously.... and none of the cast were shooting for Academy Awards here. For what the movie set out to do, I think it's a good (legitimately) film and I was very pleased to get it on blu ray

Those could be good Warner Archive choices!! I remember seeing Lolly Madonna several times on TV as a kid... pretty grim movie from what I recall...

Does anyone know if Twilight Time has sales often? I want to get a few of their Japanese titles, but they are a little "pricey" at the moment.

Depends. They first started having sales in 2014, and they had one that year. In 2015, they had two. In 2016, they had three.

In 2017, they had eight, three of which were studio specific: MGM/UA in March, Fox in June, and Sony in August. The current February sale is another MGM/UA, and I presume they'll have another one for Fox and for Sony. And probably another couple of non-specific sales.

Audrey Rose and Summer Lovers are now officially OOP.

They haven't yet officially called Love and Death OOP, but nothing turns up on a search at SAE, so it looks like that's gone as well.

It is kind of weird to have one company focusing on Woody Allen *and* Walter Hill. Can't wait till they get Crossroads.

I'm in for Geronimo: An American Legend and Hilda Crane.

I already own the Kino Blu-ray of The Birth of a Nation, but I would like to see how much the 2015 Photoplay restoration improves upon the presentation.

The Birth of a Nation is not exactly a movie that I am eager to pop in the player on a frequent basis, but I am interested in upgrading if the end result is more visually impressive on the upcoming Twilight Time disc.

As for the tracking, the order was in and out of a distribution center about 82 miles from me on the 11th (so it should've arrived on the 12th or 13th*) and it hasn't been scanned in or out of any location since then.

[*I had another package, sent media mail, go through the same location on the 18th and it arrived on the 20th.]

I've filled out the missing mail search from the Post Office, but I haven't heard anything yet.
Update to this mess, my package seems to have been found and is scheduled for delivery today.

Assuming everything is fine in the order, I'm going to have a 2nd copy of Summer Lovers that I have to deal with.
