Interesting. I've only seen a couple copies of this opened in my lifetime, but both had the interior art. Do you recall any difference in the disc art layout, maybe that got changed too? If you have the one without inner art, does it look like my pic or the ebay link?

Not at all, feel free and good luck with it. Although maybe wait and see what Crispy replies to my question above. Also check the disc playing surface, if it's dark, it is a bootleg no question. Silver is probably legit, although I have heard some tell of silver surface boots, just not many.

Yep. Here is another picture of the disc art without that writing next to the DTS logo:

****. I'm always careful about this sort of thing.

What about the torn cover art? Perhaps the torn cover art is the sign of trying to hide that this is a bootleg? The torn cover art and no picture of the back of disc...

I also can confirm this. There were two pressings of this title. One had inside art, and one didn't. I think Anchor Bay just cut corners when it came to pressing more and eliminated the inside art. Also, the no-art version came in an eco-case as well. Just saving some pennies. Both were legit.

I kept the one with the inner art, but only for that reason. Both were pressed discs and the content played identically. The outside art was also the same. I don't recall any real differences in the appearance of the actual disc. Believe me before giving one up I really spent some time comparing, but of course I could have missed something minor.

Please see iamnoone's post as well.

Well, the question seems to be about the extra writing that is next to the DTS logo.

Here is the disc that I bought:

There's also the blu-ray logo is closer to the art and there's an extra line of some text under it. Oh yeah, the small print is closer to the edge on the possible boot.

I have the version without the artwork on the inside of the insert.

And the disc looks identical to the one in the ebay listing. To the right of the DTS logo, there are the two extra letters "ES". The added extra line of text under the "Blu-Ray Disc" is "MADE IN U.S.A."

It's completely legit. I bought it new directly from Amazon when it was still in print, security seal, silver back, etc. There would have been no reason to boot a title like this back then when it was selling for less than $10, especially at a time where it seemed like it would be available forever.

I didn't get into Blu until 2010 or so, so by that point it was probably already into its second pressing since it was first issued in 2007. Anchor Bay simply made some changes to the design for who knows what reason. Maybe the first pressing plant was in Mexico, and they changed to the USA for the second pressing and wanted to promote that. And printing more of the cover, they saved costs by making it one sided.

So I wouldn't be worried about that ebay listing not being legit. (And nope, I'm not that seller.)

Alright, thanks... I'll at least wait until the disc comes in. Looking at the guys other items it looks like his stuff comes his personal collection and not someone who sells a bunch of bootlegs. It's not the correct thing to go around and just accuse somebody of selling bootlegs without seeing the extra disc. Hopefully you're right. I appreciate the responses from you guys and I'll give an update when my disc arrives.

You would be better off contacting the seller (which is what ebay will tell you to do) as there is nothing there that definitively proves its a bootleg.
You have the right to cancel the order or return the item if you already have it no questions asked. The seller might be able to give you some background on the item.
And as ebay has tens of thousands of bootleg movies listed I doubt they will know or care

Sweet, false alarm on my part (unless that playing surface is dark)!
Plus we all learned something today, there are 2 versions (unless you already knew that, then might not've learned shit).

What really surprises me is I bought mine shortly after it had gone OOP. It was in a section of Canadian blus at a regional store (Meijer's) where everything was $10, but the Anchor Bay discs were the exact same as US (most others were Maple instead of Lionsgate logos, some with dual language covers). So I had to grab it and Day of the Dead, and original My Bloody Valentine. All that would make me guess there never was a cheaper version, or I would've had it.

Sucks Meijer's doesn't have that section anymore, the best part besides those OOP titles, was getting the Canadian Piranha remake with the pop-out slipcover. That thing is just ****ing cool!

I don't have my Anchor Bay dvd box set to hand as I'm at work.

But I'm thinking this is a DVD from the Ultimate Edition box-set.

That's a bootleg with artwork from another release. If you look near the bottom of the hub you can see a sliver of white where the printed image didn't quite match up. As someone who has printed his share of fan edit discs that is an unmistakable telltale sign that this disc was created at home rather than pressed in a factory.

God, no. Unfortunately I wasted over $100+ on that set a few years back. Pre-ordered it before anyone knew anything about it. Was touted as having brand new HD masters (and they were) and figured the Japanese are usually known for their quality. Was way off. Masters sucked, colors and black levels are really weak and have barely any new detail over the older masters. And that only applies to the Theatrical and Extended Cuts. The Euro Cut uses a slightly older HD transfer that looks a little better because the black levels are much deeper and doesn't have the almost gray look the other Cuts do, but that's negated because in some scenes there's digital noise that's distracting. Notably the rooftop shootout scene. Sadly the almost 14 year old Ultimate Edition DVD set is still the end all, be all set of this great movie.

Thanks for the heads up. I almost pulled the trigger on it. I'll get me some Criterions I've been eyeing instead.
