If you're Region Free, just get the Italian 4K UHD set if you really want a decent HD version of the Ultimate Edition DVD set.

Its quite flawed, but it's way more affordable than the super overpriced Japanese set.

True. Although the only cut that is restored is the Argento/International cut. I bought the single-disc of that cut for about $12 from Amazon Italy. It's fairly good and will do just fine until something better comes along.

I have both the 4K set and the solo remastered Argento cut, as Midnight Factory sent me the corrected version in a full amaray case, artwork and all.

I'm not sure that I've seen anything but the US theatrical cut.. Does the other cuts really add anything to the film? The the US cut is kind of choppy in some places, but I have this feeling that I wouldn't prefer any other cut since I've watched this one for so many years.

the extended cut does have some material not found elsewhere but i wouldn't say that it adds much to the film. the dock scene is longer and gives some more details that aren't in the theatrical. aside from that the rest is interesting but adds nothing of import to the film. the Euro cut is actually a bit shorter with a couple of scenes not found in the US version ( full zombie kids in closet scene) the music is different in parts in the Euro version as well.

I've always preferred the extended cut. It has a good amount of more zombie kills and always enjoyed the fact that Francine is able to kill the zombie that bites Roger. It's a very tragic, yet fulfilling scene.

The "choppiness" is probably a result of the fact that almost every home video release of the US cut for the past 20ish years has been derived from the Cannes aka Extended Cut; unless of course you mean the flow of scenes in general.

What I mean is that at times you can just tell that something has been cut. There is a 2:19 minute version on youtube and you can tell in the scene where Flyboy and Fran are refueling. Is that the Extended Cut? You can tell stuff as been cut in the US Cut during that scene.

If you're referring to the encounter at the Docks then Yes that is from the Extended Cut though for the 1998 Anniversary DVD, Anchor Boy accidentally left that whole docks sequence in (which can lead to more confusion for people who are only familiar with that particular release). For a better help understanding the lengths the US cut is 2 hours and 7 minutes and the Extended Cut is 2 hours and 19 minutes.

Oh, ok... I get it now.

Even as a kid I could tell that something had been cut at the docks scene. I like that extended docks scene, but I'm skipping through this extended cut and I don't like some of the other differences... Like The Wooley head shot at the start of the movie. That scene doesn't look good in this extended cut.

I'm thinking the US Cut is the best version.

The main reason I like the Euro cut is because it has Goblin music blasting throughout the movie.

Was it the 4K disc that was replaced? What did they have to correct? I’ve been considering just going for it and buying the UHD but I didn’t realize there was a replacement program.

No, it was just the 1080p widescreen version of the 4K remaster, just for better encoding. The 4K UHD itself is just fine.

Well, my copy arrived today...

Good news: It doesn't appear to be a bootleg. The special features play fine.

Bad news: The damn thing skips. I tried it on my PS4 and one of my LG blu ray players and it had skipping issues at different parts. On PS4 the disc had issues when Flyboy tries to enter the TV studio and when they're in the the elevator shaft. On my LG player it skips when Roger is being attacked by the the female zombie. It skips right at the moment Peter shoots the female zombie.

The disc has scuff marks on it. I'd say it's between good and acceptable condition. There is a sticky ring around the outter side of the disc. As if there was a rental sticker or something that was removed.

ugh.

That's probably why the artwork was trimmed/cut off along the top. It probably had a video store sticker like Blockbuster across the top and there was no way to peel it off. Also removing the center ring sticker shows the seller was trying to hide the fact that it was a well-worn ex-rental.

That sucks, especially on a more expensive titles. I had bought Vampires from Twilight Time recently and the sucker skipped which was really annoying. I've been buying a ton of used blu-rays and while most have worked, but I'm pretty surprised as to how many ones I've gotten that skipped. What's funny is that I've bought hundreds of used DVD's in the past and had less problems that I've having with blu.

It got worse. When I wrote these messages the disc was still in my LG player. When I went to go get the disc out it was stuck in my player and I had to dig it out.

He is giving me shit about it. Asking why I would put it in my player knowing it had sticky residue. Well, the same reason I paid 40 dollars. This a rare item and I wanted it to work. If you see this disc up close you can see it on the disc. He says he will give a 3 dollar refund so that I can go have it resurfaced. It looks like I'm going to have to fight to get my money back.

If it skips, it skips. That's not your fault. You should get a full refund and simply mail it back to him. Otherwise, complain with Ebay and you should get your money back.

Don't forget to leave him negative feedback as well.

Or that he himself just didn't like the stickers. I pull any rental ring stickers off immediately upon purchase whenever any of my films have them as well, so while it's possible he was attempting to be sneaky, it's also possible he was just trying to clean up/restore the disc to something closer to retail.
