Going to see it this Sunday, I am looking forward to it. I liked what I saw in the trailers and you can't go wrong with Vikander. It'll be nice going to the movies again anyway since the last movie I saw theatrically was Wonder Woman.

No, it's the equivalent of 3/4 stars or 6/10 in critic review parlance.

- barely any cast, infact just lara suriving/Tomb Raiding and Animals would have suited me...yes only 1 member of cast..would have been bold

The script could just be her talking/narrating to herself and speaking to a photo of her Dad for courage to get through a certain crap situation etc etc.

When I think of the very original Tomb Raider game. Level 1 gives us Wolves and a Bear (if you happen to fall down there). Why cant both of these be the movies "villains".
Blend that with gorgeous sets/tombs. Leaps of faith, rock climbing etc etc.
I dont want "Splosions/Grenades/Commando nonsense".

This new movie (ignoring it being a direct port of the rebooted videogame) looks like some nonsense Jumanji 2/Expendables movie hybrid.
Nothing about it feels Tomb Raider and that includes the castings.
We should have had some kind of "The Grey" and "23 hours" type hybrid set inside tombs/caves with Wolves and Bears.

job done.
I haven't played the video games or the video game reboot.

But would any studio or money packager spend $90 million on a movie that involves a person slaughtering animals throughout the entire film? Even if they're CGI, could you imagine the backlash that film would get?

Roger Ebert always used a 4 star scale. A 3 was the lowest a movie could get and be a thumbs up.

On a 4 star scale usually positive review are 4, 3.5 or 3 stars, while negative reviews are 2.5, 2, 1.5, 1, .5, and 0 stars.

Same with using letter grades. Usually B- is the lowest positive score.

I didn't make up the system; I'm just the messenger.

(Personally I use a 1-10 scale with 6 being my lowest positive rating).

Just back from it. Actually so freakin good. I can't believe I'm saying this but it breaks the curse! It's a film based on a video game that's actually so great! I'm a chuffed little fanboy

I dont understand the deep analysis of the grades. It’s just an entertaining well-done film - not amazing, not bad, just good! Not everything has to be best or worst! Thinking about a few of the action scenes in London and HK makes me want to see the film again. Alicia did quite a good job and worked out hard for the role. She put love and respect into the role and it shows, way more respectful than Angelina poking her tits and lips out and strutting around like a diva. Alicia also understands her body movements - just like in Ex-Machina, she acts with her body too - watching her movements in that film and Tomb Raider is quite entertaining to watch since she moves with grace and love - a very good actress who can use her body to express emotions. Someone similar who moves with style and grace is Joseph Gordon Levitt (from 500 Days, Inception, Premium Rush, Looper, Dark Knight Rises). Not sure if other people notice but both Gordon-Levitt and Vikander have similar type bodies and their physical presence is stylish, graceful and classy in their body movements.

I wasnt a big fan of Alicia but Tomb Riader has got me intrigued with her again!

I'm going to see this anyway since there's very little to see this weekend.
This could be something despite my lack of confidence in Vikander.
Fingers crossed that this'll actually be something after being burned by Red Sparrow.

I honestly think they could have left this out and added more scenes on the island.

They really need some kind of disclaimer on reviews that should be posted at the start, something like "the views and opinions expressed in this article are those solely of this reviewer. For one to truly know what a film is like, go out and see it. Because what one critic may like or hate, a viewer could have the opposite reaction."

That is as bad as having a warning on a bag of peanuts. Warning contains peanuts.

This review has a click-baity headline but if you ignore that and read the whole thing...it pretty much sums up my thoughts.

While I agree with you for some films, I also find it very worthwhile to find a couple reviewers that you agree with most of the time and use them as a pre-screening service per se. It really does help you weed out the useless crap movies like Wrinkle In Time which I wont even rent at this point. Way too many reviews that are bad and say the SAME thing.

Sure, if a few reviewers simply hate something and just rant then thats not really a good gauge of a film. Or, if a film is divided right down the middle between loved it or hated it then you should see where you fall.

But I feel its safe to skip a theater trip if a film is clearly labeled just "bad" by either a reviewer that you usually agree with or if its getting universally slammed. I know, we all have guilty pleasure films in our catalogs but they are few and far between. Plus you usually rent or buy those in the discount bin, you dont waste a theater ticket on them.

Ill rent this Tomb raider movie. It looks to be possibly a decent flick. Ive never played the game and have no knowledge of its "lore" so that may or may not be a good thing. We'll see.

Maybe it's just me but Alicia Vikander looks like an 8th grader. Seriously. In real life she couldn't beat up a nerdy high school boy. How am I suppose to suspend disbelief THAT much? I believed that Angelina Jolie could whip a room full of guys.

Then again, hollywood has made tiny Tom Cruise a tough guy and somehow I buy that in certain films. It's just in this case I'm having trouble envisioning Alicia Vikander as fierce unless she gets bitten by a radioactive spider or else some other plot device steps up to cover.
