They don't need to reboot anything. Just hire a younger actor and give him adventures before and in between the other movies.

Yeah, the 1920s are wide open for new adventures with a younger Indy. The movies start from the mid-1930s, while Young Indiana Jones goes up to 1920. That's a whole decade's worth of adventures that could be explored, revamping the series for a new young actor to take over without wiping out everything else and starting from scratch. Could even use the opportunity to show his first encounters with Sallah, Marion and Abner, and Belloq, which had already been planned for YIJ. I wouldn't be surprised at all if that's the route Disney ultimately goes.

I'm probably done when Ford is. The new ones with a new actor will be for a new generation.

Definitely this, especially looking at the Indy we've seen thus far

* Young Indiana Jones is Indy at ages 8-21

* The movies are Indy at age 36+

That means that his late 20's and early thirties could be explored in prequels. Say they did ages 25-31 for prequels, and did per 1-2 years, they could get another 3-6 movies.

There are quite a few noteworthy wars/events that occurred in that time period too if they didn't want to go fully fictional, such as

* Cristero War - 1926
* Chinese Civil War - 1927
* Afghan Civil War - 1928
* Sino-Soviet Conflict - 1929
* Sino-Tibetan War - 1930
* Japanese Invasion of Manchuria - 1931

Starts filming in 2019.

Honestly, Spielberg himself should have retired five years ago. He's crapping on his legend now. It's like watching Willie Mays as a Met or Joe Montana as a Chief.

George Lucas was the problem with the last one. Spielberg did the best he could. Plus, he hasn’t made a bad film in the past 5 years. Two of them got a Best Picture nom.

He hasn't made a great film for a while. The only way can make another one is trying. He shouldn't retire.

I thought Lincoln was an average biopic.

...haven't seen the other two.

But neither of them seem like they have that Spielberg magic that we all came to know and love in the 80s and 90s.

Indy is so old now that if he opened a fridge to escape a nuke attack he would forget why he opened it and just stare into it.

And none of those films were "great" - greatness was/is Jaws, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan and Raiders Of The Lost Ark. To say that Lincoln, Bridge of Spies and The Post belong among those aforementioned titles in terms of quality is ridiculous. It's been 20 years since he's Directed a truly great film...

Kennedy's producing? So we can expect Jones to be killed off screen and replaced by Lara Croft?

War Horse, Tintin, Lincoln and The BFG are wonderful. Wasn't big on Bridge of Spies, didn't dislike it, just felt it was a bit redundant in Spielberg's canon, and I suppose I could say the same thing about The Post. Irony is, Spielberg's getting good notices for Ready Player One, and going back to his skill set.

@Stvn1974 - Ha! Made me laugh.

But I never had a problem with an older Indy. I always imagined his adventures would just continue. And I don't mind another try to close the series as we know it once again, in a good way. It might surprise us.

They're not going to do stories based around those historic events even though that's what The Young Indiana Jones did. The masses are dumbed down. Most people can't even tell you when WW II was or who we fought. To get people into theatres, it's going to have to be more stories dealing with the supernatural and mystical things. Hopefully they'll stay away from aliens.

I always though Indy should go to Africa and meet up with Lord Greystroke and search for the Jewels of Opar.

Shia was bad casting from the beginning. I NEVER bought what Shia was selling. Even Spielberg now acknowledges the error of his ways.

Ans we don't need Marion on screen... that was putrid, and I don;t say very often about a character,

So, we will see, if indeed, Spielberg has any GREATNESS left in the tank....
Or, just run-of-the-mill (for Spielberg) stuff.

So let's see....

We've had Marion as a sidekick (Liked that!)

A little kid as a sidekick (Didn't appeal to me, but maybe little kids, and parents of little kids loved it...)

The Father as a sidekick (What's not to like about Sean Connery !!)

The son as a sidekick (Hated It !!!) with a bonus Marion (Just NO!)

I have no idea what Spielberg has up his sleeve for #5.

BTY, I originally saw Raiders Of The Lost Ark on Father's Day in 1981.
