That's quite possible, too. Maybe it is a legit disc straight out of the U.E. set. If so, What Balls! Blatantly misrepresenting a DVD as an OOP BD certainly won't win you many friends over the long haul. Either way, the seller should be ashamed of himself and clean up his act.

But what do I know? Not only did the seller get his 50 bucks for it, he also received positive feedback from the buyer, too: "Reasonable seller" says the sucker. Unbelievable. Maybe misrepresenting DVDs as Blu-Rays (bootleg or genuine) does win you friends, after all.

I would bet anything this dude has an UE set with the BD for the theater cut in it. If not him, whoever he got it from does.

Whenever something like this gets positive feedback, I always wonder if it really sold. Maybe it "sold" to an alias for the seller, or the seller's friend. I'm sure some would pay some small ebay fees to build up good feedback so they can rob people later.

Ebay has become a ****ing minefield, it used to be great finding for OOP stuff, now it's a casino on them.

Guys, I'm trying to snag a poster for Dawn. There seems to be two different color patterns, one with pink letting and one with green lettering. Which is more official so to speak? Or are they both equals? I often see both. Example: Pink Green

Thanks

I did end up getting the refund.

I got to be honest, I don't think I'm going to try and pick it up again at the 40+ dollar price tag. I would have kept it had it worked because I do hate that I don't have the official blu ray release when I have most of the other key horror films. It sucks not having it, but what I did get to see of the blu, I have to admit that I wasn't overly impressed with the transfer. It's better than the DVD, but its not the leap that I would hope.

I hope I catch it cheap (somehow) or it gets released again, but the DVD isn't all that terrible all things considered.

Still, it hurts not having it to go along with the Criterion release of Night. I hate having one and not the other at this point. But it is what it is.

Keep an eye on used stores and pawn shops around you, people sell shit all the time without knowing what it's worth, and others like us get shit for cheap at these places!

I never bought this disc because I thought it looked no better than the DVD with its heavy DNR and a poor replacement for my Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition.

If I knew it was literally the only version Region A would ever get on Blu-ray I probably would have got it, but I still think the PQ is quite crummy and not filmic at all.

I saw on caps a holic there is a KOCH UHD, that appears to be an improvement. Any issues with this release?

I believe that one with pink/ red lettering is the 'official' original. The green one is most likely an alternate style, but still from 1978.

Depends how dumb/lazy your pawn shop owners are. There are three or four used Blu-Ray/DVD stores around me, and ALL of them are run by people that have to check Amazon Marketplace for literally everything, and thus everything's price is even worse than online, especially considering Amazon Marketplace usually has unrealistic prices to begin with. I only get deals when things finally end up in their clearance bins.

Man, glad I bought this years ago at Best Buy for $10. This really should be re-mastered by Criterion.

My local pawn shop checks sold listings on eBay, which is reasonable... but checking Amazon Marketplace? Yikes.

I doubt the pawn shop here even has a computer! Every BD is $4 or 3 for $10. Multi-disc sets usually count as that many titles though.

The used store in town does check amazon and ebay, then puts stuff out for about half the average price of those. Plus they are smart and check the sold ebay listings, not just the ridiculous buy it now listings.

Guess I got lucky with the pawn shop/used store draw.

After the fantastic job they did with Night of the Living Dead, I'd love to see Criterion get Dawn.

My pawn shop is usually 5 for 20 and I've found some pretty good deals like getting "Near Dark" and "Aladdin" for 5 each.

The UHD is the European Argento edit.
I have the multi disc set and the UHD doesn't look any better than the Bluray.
Main reason for buying it is its the most reasonably priced set with all 3 versions on Bluray.
I've not checked the price lately of the Japanese set but I'm sure you're aware of the OTT pricing of the Japanese market

I've found a few sweet things here. Monster Squad SE when it was already OOP, Near Dark (still sitting in trade bait stack as I had it already), Resident Evil Afterlife steelbook (the only one I was missing at the time, and they let me trade my normal version plus $2 for it!) to name a few. Best scores have come from the $3 or 5 for $10 dvds. Cabin By the Lake/Return to Cabin by the Lake, Milo, Monster Club (when it was worth $50+, BD crushed that) and many obscure horror movies I can't think of right now.

Its not perfect, but i'm happy with both the Italian 4K UHD set and the standalone corrected blu-ray of the Argento cut I got for free.

I collect movie posters and can tell you that the green poster is the first and rarest. The red is also from the first release but was issued a few months later when the movie was put into wider release. Th green poster is going to cost you at least $500, the red can be had for under $100
