As for Dolby TrueHD, the PS3 can decode it and a few others, not sure which. |

I think playing the waiting game might be safe for a person like me whose upgrading their home theater system. Its getting MESSY when it comes to those sound formats and what equipment will carry the decoders. (the players, the receivers, or the hdmi cables)

uncompressed PCM is the best, since there is no chance of decoding errors and achieves maximum compatibility, but doesn't sound any different in the end. Typically they'll use DOlby Digital Plus or Dolby TrueHD on HD DVD titles. When those tracks are present on both discs, they're the same exact data, no differences, just a readjustment of how the data is stored. (my CD binder holds 8 discs per page while yours only does 6, but both binders still hold 500 discs in the end) Last edited by WickyWoo; 07-30-2007 at 10:33 PM. |

I like DTS, but that's mainly because my current reciever is not capable of utilizing PCM tracks. I still think I'll prefer DTSMA(or is it DTSHDMA? I don't feel like checking before I post this time.) to Dolby True HD. I'm just fine waiting for the high end decoders to come down in price. Until then I'll be satisfied with DTS & even Dolby.
However I do intend to upgrade my receiver within a year or so(business is slow. Anyone want to record a demo or liscense some music? hahaha) to either an Onkyo or more likely I'll keep it in the Sony family.... But something that can take full advantage of my PS3 and Blu-ray. I HAVE heard PCM and I do prefer it to all the formats mentioned above in the post. Last edited by IamNhobdy; 07-30-2007 at 10:57 PM. |

What sucks about the picture? Because it's grainy? You know that's what it's supposed to look like, right? One thing I did notice was that the bitrate of the Dolby TrueHD track actually drops below the bitrate of a DTS track... very odd they can do that and still have it be "lossless". And the PCM is louder, but that doesn't mean better.

There are 154 Blu-ray titles in North America with lossless audio. There are 43 HD DVD titles in North America with lossless audio. The reviews from High Def Digest, Home Theater Spot, DVD Talk, Upcoming Discs and Home Theater Forum speak for themselves. SQ Studio 4.38 Buena Vista 4.12 Sony 4.08 Fox 3.81 Lionsgate 3.81 Paramount 3.63 Warner 3.63 Universal 3.63 Weinstein 121 of the 284 Blu-ray titles currently available in North America have PCM. That's 42.6% 19 titles have 24-bit PCM. Quote:

BD & HD DVD they say in the beginning 7.1 DTS HD & Dolby True HD but still 2 or 3 movies that's it and Blockbusters nothing. for me the sound is NR1 & the video is NR2 the most movies are 5.1 Please Paramount pictures make transformers a special Audio track at least DTS ES or 5.1 EX (i hope for DTS 7.1 Master HD or PCM 7.1. bye the way for people that love's DTS-ES till now the best what i saw is RESIDENT EVIL APOCALYPSE DVD (HONG KONG VERSION) that's real 100% surround mixing.

The Untouchables has a 3 Mbps DTS-HD 6.1 track There have also been several 7.1 releases like Waiting, Ghost in the Shell 2 : Innocence, Weeds Season 2, Ultimate Avengers, etc. I'd rather have 24/48 PCM in 5.1 than 16/48 PCM in 7.1 though. Disney's audio kicks ***. Their last 30 reviews AVERAGE out to a 4.5 star rating. Last edited by GoldenRedux; 08-02-2007 at 10:56 PM. Reason: language |
