Basically He is saying that the New audio codecs for HD sound have a tone freq range from 5hz to inf khz (within reason). and most subs for the average joe range from about 20hz to 120hz which would match up well with the old Audio codecs like DD and DTS which range from 20hz to inf khz (again within reason). So when your subs limit is reached when playing an HD audio codec all you hear is a muffled sound that isn't very clear or loud for that matter.

Dolby Digital and dts also can put out 5Hz tones, we have seen this in spectrum analysis of "The Incredibles" for example.
The Dolby Digital track has numerous scenes with energy down to 5Hz. http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volum...05-part-2.html Probably 0.001% of the people here have a subwoofer that will hit 5Hz. You need to get a rotary sub I believe to get usable output that low. http://www.rotarywoofer.com/ Frequency Response: 1Hz – 30Hz +/- 4dB Dolby TrueHD doesn't magically carry information at 5Hz that no other codec does. DSD, dts, dts-master audio, PCM, dolby digital, etc., all can offer frequencies that low. Last edited by dobyblue; 01-14-2009 at 08:57 PM. |

Good luck hearing anything below 15hz even 20hz is hard to hear. Also no such thing as the brown note, mythbuster busted that one. Also has any ever seen a sub play a sound at 10hz or below, it's incredible to watch the cone on the speaker move.
