I doubt you'll be disappointed in Abominable. I rented it just for Tiffany Shepis, thinking it'd be an okay-ish time-waster, but was shockingly surprised at what it turned out to be, which is an awesome, highly charged monster movie. Great cast, great practical effects, gore, nudity...an all around great time, in a style representative of the 80s, but with a fresh feel and vibe. When MVD announced this, their credit with me jumped sky high.

MVD, very encouraging to read that you have a TON of new acquisitions (according to your FB post)
Can not wait. Hopefully a few of those are titles mentioned on here like 3:15 and a few I listed. |

With Abominable and Shadowbuilder in the works, MVD are quickly becoming one of my favourite companies. Return of the Swamp Thing is also one I'm looking forward to, considering they're giving it a new transfer. They're quite the eclectic company right now and I dig that.

I'm really excited about Return of Swampy, it's such a bad movie that I only remember snippets from catching on cable when I was younger and renting the VHS. I can't wait to revisit it. I just picked up the OST on vinyl from Terror Vision Records and it has a way better score than it deserves to.

![]() I mostly remember how they had like 100 cassette tapes of Dark Shadows the TV show; they must have had the first few hundred episodes. The irony is that mom and pop shop actually closed a smaller convenience store video section because they couldn't compete. It was at that convenience store where I rented most of my NES games from and first discover The Legend of Zelda with that gold cartridge! Small fish eaten by slightly larger fish eaten by very big fish and now all fishes have been eaten by the internet whale. |

I lived in a small town, and we had three video stores (this was between 1989 and 1996-ish; I was 9 and 16, respectively): ACE Video, Movies R Us (later changed to Movies 4 U after Toys R Us threatened to sue), and Movies To Go. The best of the three was definitely Movies To Go; they were a true mom and pop and had tons of older horror titles, and the store was seedy and ramshackle. ACE had all the Full Moon and new DTV stuff. Movies R US was the weakest of the three, but they still had a decent selection of horror from time to time. Later on those all closed and Captain Video opened. Surprisingly, Captain Video is still there, though it gets most of its business from tanning. I'll still occasionally stop in to browse titles they have for sale, which is usually newer releases of Blu-rays they want to get rid of. |

There was an excellent chain of video rental places in my area growing up called Videoflicks. They had so many films that, even though I rented 7 a week (pretty much) for years, I still barely made a dent in their library, with the exception of the horror section, which I frequented the most. Companies like this bring me back to that time, which were some of the best years of my life. Although I genuinely miss rental stores, I can still get excited about releases that almost mirror my experience with them thanks to the hard work from companies like this and a handful of others.

Toy Soldiers is with Sony in the US, so TT, Mill Creek or perhaps even Shout are the best bets for that.
Split Second was with HBO, but I don't know if that is the case. If it is, and HBO titles are available to them via the Warner deal, it could be that Scream release it. |

I would love to see these titles released by you guys. These never even got a North American DVD release ... so it could be huge, especially King of the Kickboxers!!!
![]() ![]() Honestly ... this is my favorite Martial Arts movie hands down, so I would easily splurge on that one. Oh hell who am I kidding, I would buy all of the on blu-ray in a heartbeat. Cost really wouldn't matter. EDIT: Oh wow this is the exact Jumbo Video I went to as a kid, just found it online. I remember the Pet Value a few doors down because that's where we got our cat when I was 7. This place was a treasure! ![]() Last edited by captainjoe; 04-30-2018 at 04:46 PM. |
