UK release says the blu-ray will have Atmos. Not the case with US one, judging by the back cover.

I should probably cancel the US pre-order and wait for more detail.

Yeah that difference alone would make me order the U.K. and wait a bit longer.

For now, we might as well tell ourselves that the "release date" has been pushed back to Jun 5th so that it'll feel like we don't have to wait two weeks.

To anyone in the know: Any chance that the U.K. Version could be a better encode for some other reason?

And on that note, could this release be a case not unlike 2049's whereby Sony Encodes outside the US, and Warners handles it for States?

If so I might have even more reason to import and wait a week or two more to see the film...
Sony has nothing to do with The Matrix, unlike 2049. WB will be releasing it in both US and EU. But the release has different content for sure, at the very least - audio and subs. Who knows, maybe encode will be different too. Regardless, never underestimate WB's ability to **** up.

Maybe I will just order both and gift away the other version. So I don't have to wait extra-time.

Your post is funny, because before I saw this I was comparing them backs of both regions boxes, and decided to come back and say "You know what, screw it; I'm just going to get both versions so that I can support interest in Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions getting releases everywhere, and so that I can experience the film in like 10 different languages as well as watch the film with like 15-20 different language subtitles so that I can learn how to read the languages I can pronounce!

Problem solved lol.

My guess would be that the US back cover on Amazon is wrong, especially as the error would basically be omitting the word "Atmos". If WB weren't so Atmos-friendly on (2D) 1080p Blu-ray, and if the US back cover said DTS-HD MA 5.1, I would be much less optimistic. And it's not so much that Warner's UK back covers haven't been wrong before as well, but rather because the UHD BD in both countries is described as a three disc set, and the press release was very clear that the Blu-ray will be remastered. Indeed, The UHD BD release of The Matrix would appear to mimic the release of Batman Begins and the international release of The Prestige, where the 1080p Blu-rays all essentially became two-disc sets, and consequently, were re-encoded and/or remastered. For The Matrix, using the same Blu-ray from 2008 would make a third disc unnecessary, since all of the extras were on that older disc with the film. So, if WB have remastered the Blu-ray, and created an Atmos track, I don't see why the two wouldn't be brought together, especially as Warner don't use Dolby TrueHD otherwise on their films anymore.

Good analysis, very Architect-like of you!

I'll still buy both for reasons listed above, but you've made a good case for why the US Blu will most likely ultimately have Atmos too.

Well-put. Two evidences against one in favor of Atmos on BD. And possibly BD being a remastered disc. Which will be good news for folk who haven't made the transition yet.

Wait, The Prestige got a new encode on BD too?

The Prestige got a new encode of the old master. Same with Begins. None of them are remastered, though. So in case of The Matrix, we will probably get the old master with a new encode and audio.

I thought it only happened with Batman Begins. Good to know.

I don't think so. The Matrix will probably get a full remaster like Unforgiven. It's stated in the press release.

The press release confirmed that the BD would be sourced from the new 4K master

There were mistakes in press releases before. So let's not rule out this possibility.
