I enjoy the pro's of both formats and use them to the fullest. It's as simple as that.
Excuse me, I somehow missed your post. Basically I hold some controversial views on where Digital is taking us. I also think we are going to see a push for interactive entertainment by the likes of Apple and Netflix and digital broadcast led by the new ATSC 3.0 standard. I believe film and tv should be a passive experience not a interactive one. The more we go down the digital rabbit hole, the worse it will get. I just want to protect film and the HT experience. I am also against viewing film on mobile phones (in a big way)

That’s my point. Even if it’s annonced tomorrow, that’s still 2 years. Why would Annihilation be any different?

I never said anything about digital or digital purhcases, I said discs are niche and they are.

Most people stream via subscription so yes 22% is a niche compared to 55% of households streaming.

Streaming video is also expected to grow 40% this year compared to 2017, so it will continue to be even more niche.

So don't view films on mobile phones.

You can pay the receptionist on the way out.

Because it got a theatrical release stateside and comes out next month. Stop whining and import it if you're so impatient.

Discs are still mainstream. Tell me, what was the total amount of money made from DVD and Blu-ray/4K discs last year?

Movie sections of stores, at least stateside, keep shrinking. They aren't disappearing, hell CD's are still lurking around, but digital has infected the movie distribution market in a big way.

You looked at Netflix and failed to notice the lack of any purchase options? That's some in depth looking alright.

You broke up with your first love, Sony Ultra, (you make no mention of her anymore) and now you have trail blazed your trendy self on over to Amazon? That's some real revolutionary thinking there. I mean: who has ever heard of Amazon before?; thanks for spreading the news!

I have been an Amazon Prime member since 2004. I have had all of their Prime streaming perks since their inception. Its that pioneer spirit in me that keeps me so ahead of the curve.

With the possible exception of Amazon's original programming, they are not much of a streaming service. Their streaming selection is poor. They really nickel and dime you with all of their add-on channels for extra and recurring fees. Even then, much of their better content is only available as either a one-off rental or an outright digital purchase.

If being one of those rare Amazon streaming customers makes you feel cutting edge, good for you. Embrace happiness wherever you find it.

Ok, say I don’t want to interact with my film or tv in future? Say I want to come home from work and zone out in front of a film or tv show? As you have all the answers how do you swerve that? We can’t control things once digital gets its claws into us all is my point.

U.S. Consumers Spend $2 Billion Monthly on Streaming Video Services. The average streaming-video subscriber pays for three different services.

Disc sales fell 14% last year and only made 4.7 bill.

Do I need to do further math for you?

When I want to zone out in front of a film or a tv show I generally turn on my tv and then point my face toward it.

I don't understand, what are you interacting with movie wise? You turn on your device and stream as is? There's no more interaction than a dvd/blu menu, unless I'm missing something.

Subscription streaming made up 46.8% of 2017's home entertainment spending, up 31.05% over 2016. No one doubts it will continue to enjoy strong growth.

Physical media, like digital sell-thru, is a purchase method, not a rental method like with subscription streaming. There are two entirely different mindsets at work here: those who want to own and those happy with renting. There are those who feel comparing rental expenditures to purchases is the wrong comparison to make as the underlying motivations are so different.

Subscription streaming's success certainly affects the ownership market, but it affects all purchasing methods, not just disc. Those who just want to rent will rent and those who want to own will make purchases. There is overlap between the two, but primarily consumers are in one camp or the other.

Purchased content can be niche; who cares? It is an available option and it will remain as one. No industry will forego 33.4% (disc + digital purchase) of an entire market.

I’m talking about the move to make entertainment more interactive. Like the choose your own adventure books. A new wave of interactive tv is coming and the studios are going to push it. Apple, Netflix etc.. plus of course, it can’t be pirated.

Subscription has yes. But if we are saying disc is niche then Digital HD absolutely 100 percent needs to be included in that also. By the way, stores are not the preferred method of buying discs for a large selection of collectors.

Finally, less people are buying films overall. Digital HD is not making up for disc. Streaming tv and the odd film is fine for huge chunks of the population. Netflix let the genie free.

That can't be. I have it on good authority that TVs are going extinct and that all movies will be watched on our phones.

Interactive tv is the buzzword. It can apply to tablets, phones, tv etc.
