What concerns me is that we have had no news in quite a while now. I think the last thing was about Tarantino writing a story for it.
But I think when Beyond was being worked on we had news about it very soon after Darkness was released. Casting news and such within a year or two.

Two years now and no cast updates, no confirmed writers.

I think we're looking at a longer period between movies this time. More of the 4 or 5 year period.

I have no idea how they are going to even handle the Chekov character now. I just hope that they don't recast him. Just mention him in passing, perhaps he was transferred or something.

I’m thinking 4-5 years as well. Recent news posted on TrekMovie suggest they will be doing at least one more film with the current cast, which is very welcome news because for a while there I was nervous they were going to do another full reboot after the semi-failure of Beyond.

At least they've already hired a writer, Mark L. Smith, who wrote The Revenant and with Tarantino still expected to direct I think we can expect a DiCaprio cameo in there somewhere haha.

They hired a writer a year and a half after Beyond came out, let's give it 6 months for the script to be worked on or 12 months if they don't like the initial draft, probably another year to coordinate schedules and budget and then another year to film and do post production, so yeah, 4 years is probably on the early side unless they fast track some things.

It wasn't a failure. It just wasn't super-duper successful like Paramount wanted it to be. It wasn't what I like to call "Disney successful".
The Rocketeer and Dick Tracy made decent box office but weren't followed up on because Disney expected blockbuster grosses.

I don't think it is needed to tell a good Trek story.

Doesn't have to be "Disney successful", just being "Star Trek '09 successful" or "Star Trek Into Darkness successful" would've been enough. But a spend of almost $200M is a heck of a chunk of dough - which I don't think you can see all of on the screen, a big tranche of that money having been wasted on the aborted Bob Orci version - and the domestic takings in particular were well below-par for the rebooted franchise. A variety of sins can be covered with a solid domestic run relative to your production budget, despite everyone looking to foreign box office to save their movies these days.

It's ironic that if Beyond had cost what the movie that we saw cost - I'll guess at no more than $130M - then its final takings would've been good enough. But Beyond just didn't do the business it needed to do, given that bloated overall spend on its production.

That terrible first trailer didn't help the Box Office either. I actually liked Beyond more than I thought I would,(especially after Into Darkness which is a mess of a movie)..and Viva Sofia Boutella as Jaylah! That's a character that ol' Yojimbo rolled his eyes at when I first saw the make-up but what a great performance by Sofia! But boy did they waste the great talent of Idris Elba so things kinda bubble and fizz about even..

I honestly like all of 'em. ST '09 is just a fantastic film, STID is as dumb as a box of rocks but so help me I've stopped hating it and just go with the flow, and Beyond is a lovely kind of 'response' to STID, that it finally gets on with the Star Trekkin' and Kirk really starts to question his command as well as whether he can escape his father's shadow. It doesn't feel like a movie chasing past glories and for that I dig it.

I love me some TOS and TNG along with their movies. I am watching DS9 and Voyager on Netflix at the moment and enjoy them. Thinking of picking up the DVDs later. Never really liked Enterprise but I might give it another shot. I haven't seen Discovery and probably won't unless it is released on disc.

I hate, loathe and despise the three reboot movies.

I just broke down and bought the existing Blu sets for the films, because I don't see Paramount doing much more with Trek, or almost any of their back catalog, TBH.

So if new, restored versions of all the films pop up shortly, you're welcome.

But wouldn't it just make financial sense for Paramount to future-proof one of their biggest cash cows? Ok, so they may never get around to doing it for blu, but at some point they'll have to give the movies some kind of proper restoration or in the future they'll all look like fuzzy piles of shiz on everyone's 16k TVs.

I’d love to know more about Bob Orci’s version, as it seemed to get quite far into pre-production. Supposedly would have featured the Enterprise, Vulcans and another alien race going after a time travel device. Somehow Kirk Prime would have been on the adventure, with new Kirk and Spock wrestling whether they change their past tragedies or go with the hand dealt. As much as I like Beyond, I would have loved to see this crazy idea.

The reboot Trek movies deteriorate as they go along. Beyond wasn't bad but it wasn't as good as Into Darkness which wasn't as good as 09.

I just want 4K pristine versions of films 2-6. I would take Generations and First Contact too, but 2-6 are my main "wants". Hell, id even take a non DNR'd version of 6, to replace the current mess thats available on BD.

I think that the new CGI was only rendered in 480p, so they would need to,go back and redo that; probably not an insane amount of work, but it doesn't seem to be a priority for Paramount.

I'd really like to have a TMP blu-ray with all three versions, like CE3K.

Yeah I AM waiting for the DC of I and the Extended of VI to hit Blu AND I am waiting for decent Blu-rays of III-IX in general.

For me DS9 is the best Trek show. Pity that it looks like ass because CBS isn't willing to invest in DS9 + VOY transfers from the 35mm camera negatives.

Yeah, please do.
It has it's obvious flaws but in many ways it is also the most accessible Trek show which has fun down to earth characters and is better paced than the Trek shows that came before.

I hope with the announcement of TWO new movies, a second season of Discovery and the most likely happening merger of CBS and Paramount chances are getting better and better for UHDs of the 10 Original Trek films and Remasters of DS9 + VOY.

Why would they know anything about the probe? that doesn't arrive until hundreds of years later.
