I have a bad feeling about S2 of Westworld. We watched ep.1 last week. I'm worried about this series suffering from the same issue as so many other televisions series': it might have been better served in anthology format. Instead we spend so much more time picking up the pieces, resolving issues from the previous season, referring to past events, and checking-in with old characters, instead of telling a brand new interesting story.
I still love the show. The new episode was good. But I find this to be a recurring issue among many successful TV shows. Stranger Things, Mr. Robot, some of the best shows suffer from the requirement to exist upon and extrapolate from the previously built architecture from the preceding season. Subsequent seasons often feel like derivatives. I hope season 2 continues to grow by leaps and bounds. I have great hopes for [Show spoiler] This is the one problem with creating the perfect first season of a new IP. |

I think I liked it so much because it was enlightening. It wasn't trying to be all mysterious and pretentious. I finally felt like I was understanding everything that they were throwing at me until the end where they left a nice cliffhanger.

Well, they're a form of very time consuming entertainment. And you have to pay close attention as something that happens in episode 6 or 7 is tied to something that what's his name said or did in episode 2 . . .
I have disc 1 of season 1 of Westworld BD in my Netflix by mail Q to see if I like it enough to buy the Season 1 UHD. I tend to not like most HBO series - I never could make it though a whole episode of the Sopranos, too violent & too much foul language. Never made past a few minutes of Deadwood, it seemed like the Sopranos in western costumes, using profanity that would never have been used in that time period. I lost interest in Game of Thrones after the first few episodes of season 1. * Anyone offended by profanity doesn't want to be within earshot of me when I stub my toe or hit my thumb with a hammer. But that's what it's for - special emphasis, not as a substitute for every possible noun, verb, adjective . . . |
