Yamaha NS-SP1800BL Vs. Polk RM6750 - Blu-ray Forum

Anyone have experience with both of these... I wanna know which will offer the best sound for the buck. I know I should spend more $$ and get individual speakers, but that will come in time... baby steps, since $ is limited right now. I am using an Onkyo 606, and am a newbie dunno what I'm lookin at!

Any input on which of these are a better set, and why? more options is great if you can offer some input as to why.. Otherwise, more options is just confusing!

Polk 50 watt sub vs. yamaha 100 watt sub...

I'd go with the yamaha, twice the sub, the satellites and center can handle more bass than the polks, and its cheaper since you are upgrading later anyway..

I have a couple friends with yamaha Htib that sound great.. better than similar sony ones

So is the 1800 or the 5800 a better buy for the $$... Sorry I really am a newbie. Do You know any 7.1 sets that are decent for the $250.00 that I can get? I have a 7.1 receiver, but cause of my budget restraints I figured I'd be better off doing 5.1 now. Any thoughts? Thanks, sorry for being so dense...

I've heard Yamaha HTIB subs. My friend has one. You must be high on something if you think it's twice the sub as the RM6750 sub.

I think Yamaha makes some really garbage subs (no offense to anyone with one). Even Polk makes better subs than Yamaha.

Uh oh, see this is where I get confused... Hopefully I'll get some more feedback so I can hear the arguments from both sides... bottom line, I just wanna get the best bang for my buck... even though it's only a small buck for now.. (with my wife it may be a while before I get to spend 1500 on a good system.. lol)

its true the 100watt 8" sub isnt the greatest in the world but even most htib have a 75watt sub i wouldnt get the 50 watt polk

As I posted in another thread today, I'd rather have 15 quality watts over 100 garbage watts.

Watts doesn't mean much when it comes down to it. Would you rather have a 1000 watt, $30 HTIB system or a properly put together system with 90 quality watts per channel? Would you rather have a sub with 5000 watts that sounds like garbage or a 200 watt eD sub that sounds a million times better?

OP, Don't look at the watts issue so much. As Drive King has said - 15 quality watts is better than 100 garbage watts. There are many single ended amps that only produce 5 watts and they cost thousands of dollars. What you are lookinig for is quality. I have heard a similar Yamaha system and I have heard the Polks also. My advise to you is to listen to them if you can before you buy them (find a store that carries them and listen to them). If I were to give my personal preference I would choose the Polks over the Yamaha's.
Yamaha used to make high-end speakers years ago (the re-entered the high end market last year - but these aren't them). The speakers that Yamaha produces now aren't nowhere near the level of their older speakers. That said - the Polk RM has been a giant killer for about the past 12 years or so in some manifestion of the model. It virtually remains unchanged. Very solid sats and ratings are more realworld than that of Yamaha. Now for $129.00 they yamahas are ok, but you should be able to find the polks for 179.00 and if I would choose between the two at those price points - the Polks are worth the price difference.

Thanks everyone for your input, it get so confusing. There are so many different sets of speakers out there. Does anyone recommend any 7.1 sets that are around $200.00 or should I stick with my original plan of 5.1 till I can get some "quality" speakers?

Get the Polk RM6750 until you're ready to start upgrading.
