The CGI and auxiliary characters were all fine and the musical numbers were great. However, they are all almost identical to the original animated classic. Watching this just made me want to re-watch the animated version.

The stand-out performance was from the guy who played Gaston. I didn't know who he was or what to expect, but I think he stole the show.
The 3D was AMAZING though (which is what pit it over the top for me)!

If you want a musical performance that really drags a film down, I present Russell Crowe in ‘Les Misérables’.
LES MISERABLES was a much better film and in fact, I would disagree with you about Russell Crowe. He wasn't that bad, it was just that all of the other performers were that much stronger. His voice was not as powerful as the others, but at least he was on key.

Emma Watson holds the camera's attention because she has a natural beauty, but I haven't seen her in any outstanding performances that anyone else in her generation couldn't do. A little disappointing, really.

I think many people simply don’t like musicals and most remakes of beloved films start off at a disadvantage because they’ll always be compared to the original instead of being viewed as a stand alone film.
I love musicals as well but the reason I didn't like the live action BATB was that it was too literal a translation of the animated film. It did not offer enough newness to make it stand on its own two feet.

I realize you can only do so much because the story is pretty straightforward and the songs must remain the same but I did only watch it once in the theatre and while I enjoyed it, I don't have a burning desire to watch it again.

Watched Thor Ragnarok 3D with the wife. Better late than never.

I see now why some said this was too joke-y and more like a GotG movie.

Nevertheless, we mostly enjoyed the view & the 3D despite the sillyness.

IMAX 3D shots were well done and added to the cool-factor.

They must have paided a fortune to use that Zeppelin song...

I think Thor Dark World 3D is still my favorite Thor movie though.

Just saw A*P*E 3D, I remember I saw the trailer on youtube a few years ago and thought "man, this looks spectacularly bad... I've got to see it!" Now finally saw it in 3D and it's exactly what I thought it was! A man in the super fake ape costume flips the bird to the screen in 3D, WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK? The 3D made the film even more entertaining, it's just a perfect so-bad-it's-good title to enjoy at night with a couple of beers.

Hi qw

To add to what you said, despite the bad effects, dialogue, etc this also gave me a break from stress. Though more amateur than professional, I think the producers had that intent in mind so it might not be so bad its good but actually a little of both, at times intentionally cornball. The 3D was great.

I believe their tongue was firmly planted in-cheek when making A*P*E - Not to be confused with King Kong!

Ehhhhhh.... As Javert, one of the two most important voices in Les Miserables, Russell Crowe constantly loses grip on the rope. Everyone else is extremely good, especially Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway, but so much rests on Javert that I wish the creative team hadn't been so starstruck with Crowe and cast someone with true singing prowess.

But I can tell we're going to agree to disagree on both these points, aren't we?

Just finished watching Shark Night. It was a mildly entertaining flick that had 3 or 4 really good 3d scenes with the rest being pretty bland. There were often scenes of low contrast that looked very poor. I suppose I could have adjusted the picture but then it would have messed up the scenes that looked right. If you are a collector, you might as well get it. If you only like good movies, I'd give it a pass.

I watched part of this last night but started too late to finish. The 3d was very nice and there were some good pop-outs so it is promising for when I finish it. The bad news is although I knowingly purchased a Russian language only version with no subtitles (of any kind), the subtitles that I downloaded from the web are wrong. I could line them up once in awhile, but there are whole sections that don't seem to fit. Perhaps there is an extended version, I don't know. What is funny about the movie was the way I was able to line up the subtitles. The English speaking actors have dubbed Russian but the English is only turned down, not eliminated! This must be very annoying for the Russians because the audio is quite a mess at this point. I'll probably just read the subtitles before watching the rest of the movie, since it is more of a visual treat for me anyway. YMMV

It does play in my region A player.

The international/English version is a shorter cut.

Just watched Seventh Son and don't understand what was wrong with me turning it off after briefly watching it on HBO 3D demand.

This was a great action fantasy movie with tremendous 3D and a vivid picture in detail, sharpness and color saturation. Was worth paying the extra few dollars importing the steel book from Korea.

Funny but first to appear on the screen was a list of languages which did not include English nor an icon to select nothing. Eventually found this was for subtitles. A language had to be selected before proceeding to the main menu. When that appeared, English was the first option after clicking the audio option. But then had to go into the subtitle menu and not only did English appear but so did an icon to select nothing.

A whole lot of extra steps.

Just watched Kung Fu Panda.

Will never get tired of writing about a film having terrific 3D and a beautiful overall picture. Not to mention a very enjoyable, funny and a bit touching story too.

Now the movie stands out on it's own, however, there's no way this, like others, could be loved as much not being seen in 3D, which was as much a serious part of the animation as any other production point.

I could identify with poo in my adolescent years. Idolized others and wishing to be like them rather than myself. So I was thinking. If the cartoon was based on an ackward adolescent me suddenly becoming a Kung Fu Grand Master, the title could not be about a panda. I would insist it be changed to "Kung Fu Jew".

It's okay. If one cannot make jokes about himself, one has no right to make jokes about others.
