The Matrix 4K UHD release is from a new scan of the original camera negative and is the first remaster of the film in nearly 15 years. The 4K UHD remaster was supervised by the film’s director of photography, Bill Pope. A remastered Blu-ray disc from the new 4K scan is also included.
I wonder if they'll re-release a new BD from the new remaster? The current BD is the VC-1 encoding done for HD DVD. Either way I'll put the BD from the 4k in my BD Digibook and toss the old BD disc.

Oh Warner cares, they just think they can get it because The Matrix has such a huge & devoted fan base. I'm holding off for now, I've seen the movie so many times I can wait - and this will be the 4th time I've bought it on disc. I have a $100 Amazon gift card coming from my Bank of America credit card rewards in a week or two. Buying it then, hopefully the price has dropped.

Still bit much, $25 would be nice. That's how much I paid for all transformers movies from BB on the release day.

According to Ralph's review, the discs default to DD 5.1 so remember to switch to TrueHD/Atmos track if you have the appropriate equipment.

$30 + $3.60 (tax) is still expensive for a catalog title.

the Blu-ray is also different and appears to be from the same source. Same menu, the Dolby Atmos track is included and it's in AVC.

one thing that Ralph didn't touch on is the color timing is re-done to match what it was like in theaters, without that oppressive green tint from the original Blu-ray

Unless the screens are poorly captured, the encode on the blu looks disastrous.

the included Blu-ray looks worse than the original Blu-ray, minus the nasty green tinge. the 4K disc looks AWESOME, but the included remastered Blu-ray is sub par IMO

Was in able to found a near matching screenshot.

Remastered: (.jpg)

Warner Bros DE disc: (.PNG)

Not exact and black bar is missing, but color timing wise:

(Remastered)

(old disc)

I seriously hope that UHD has much tighter and less filtered encode, because what a way to destroy this master...

Oh, and look at those highlights on the new blu, clouds are gone, detail outside the window too. But something tells me UHD won't have problem with this.

Meanwhile Amazon.com uploaded a new backcover. Which now mentions Dolby Atmos on the regular Blu-ray, instead of Dolby TrueHD 5.1. The actual release still has Dolby TrueHD 5.1 on the backcover.

No idea if Warner Bros will print new covers...

Yeah I see a lot of highlight clipping in that comparison. Hopefully the screenshots are inaccurate, and if not, hopefully the UHD has its HDR better dialed than the contrast in the new standard blu-ray.

[QUOTE=ilovewaterslides;15065362]This is complete BS. The Laserdisc uses the exact same master as the DVD and VHS.

Thanks for the screen shots, so it looks like it was the 04 DVD when things began to change. I was wrong. And looks like Zyber strikes again.

oh they look night and day different IMO. the shootout scene in the lobby looks incredibly blown out on the new Blu-ray, while that's not an issue on the 4K.

Wow, so from those picture, the new transfer definitely does not have the green color regrade of the last remaster. I'm guessing the colors are much closer to the original theatrical release? I have no idea since I'm not one of those guys who thinks he remembers what a film looked like 19 years ago
