First BD was much darker overall. As evident in my previous comparsion, Neo and Triniy black suit details are better visible on the remastered BD, so black details were crushed before. Of course thanks to this darker look you could see more highlights (like clouds) more clearly because clouds were dimmed, but you cant have both on BD disc (meaning black details and all bright highlights datails at the same time). You expect UHD dynamic range form BD disc? For the remastered BD, they had to make some compromises, and personally I prefer more shadows details than highlights.

Old BD was darker, but shadows weren't crushed. All details are visible if your monitor or whatever device you use can display black levels properly. Blacks are crushed when detail is lost. Old BD had problems with highlights. But highlights are even worse on the new BD because of overall brightness.

SO SELECT DOLBY ATMOS before watching.
Is this the first WB 4K disc that defaults like it is one of their early BLU-RAY releases having it default to poverty audio instead of any form of HD!

My 4K HDTV has some problems with shadows details, but my 2'nd HDTV GT60 plasma can display shadows details correctly yet I still think shadows are unnaturally dark in this particular movie. Screenshots from remastered BD looks much more balanced in this aspect. They have clearly made this master with UHD disc in mind and I'm sure UHD disc will show more shadow details and more highlights at the same time.

When is Bluray.com reviewing The Matrix? It seems other places have reviews, eagerly waiting for the review on this site.

It's precisely the 4K release that includes the new BD...

The center of focus of the sale and the whole point of the release is the UHD not the BD.

I will be discussing BD disc in the UHD thread as much as I want. Because it's a part of the package. Because it's a new master, that the new UHD disc will have as well. OK?

The focus of the thread is the 4K release and all that's included in it. If you have a problem with that, it's on you.
