I am not worried about this title becoming unavailable. If I don't get a first run copy with a slipcover, I will just have to make peace with the bunny cover art. I can do that.

I am willing to pay the current price, if the consensus of reviews and forum comments indicate that this is a great 4K disc.

Considering the director of photography was involved, it should be, and, according to (I know some of you hate) Bill Hunt over at digital bits, he gave the Video & Audio each A+. (other reviews have also been posted in this thread)

The UHD disc includes previously released commentaries and Wachowskis written intro.

It also includes a new 2-disc blu-ray set, the film is remastered from the new UHD scan and includes the new Dolby Atmos audio, along with previously released extras, he talks a bit about the extras in his review.

>It's nice to see this will be looking more like the theatrical release, I missed it in theaters (long story) so I'll be picking this one up when I can.

Waiting until $25 or less myself. Was a fan of the original as a teen but haven't watched it since so this would be something of a partially blind buy for me.

And inconsistent with everything else. Like most shots set in the Matrix. Of the pictures posted, it seems only the interrogation shot retained the grading. And compared to everything else, it sticks out when it shouldn't.

Chroma noise is worrying, but we saw that before on numerous releases - Blade Runner, Saving Private Ryan and even Braveheart. Depends on how severe it is, how frequent.

Hmm... Interesting. It looks odd because it contradict filmmakers own words how they tried to eliminate blue from the matrix scenes, but whatever. If that's how it was in theaters, so be it.

I hope so. Plus these jpgs are heavily compressed, so they probably added their part into ugliness of screencaps. I love the look of the master and can't wait to see the UHD version. With superior encode and HDR I'm sure I'm gonna love it.

Yes, because on the previous BD, that scene was actually pretty accurate grading wise. Everything else was a joke.
For example, during the scene where Mouse takes the guns out of their case before getting shot at, the first frame of this shot has complete different colours.

While not the appropriate thread, you can have a look at the new MATRIX master on iTunes right now, in 1080p.

Accurate to what? The same source that you used as evidence for comparison shows no green in the interrogation scene. It's not meant to stick out either.

And no, everything else was not a joke. It was made consistent with the look they intended: green hue when in the Matrix. Now it's not consistent. Some shots have the intended green grading, others don't.

So I checked other reviews on doblu.com to see the quality of screenshots and here how Gladiator looks:

Braveheart:

Black Panther:

Filtering and messy compression is on his screenshots, not in the source. So it leads me to believe The Matrix blu-ray isn't as bad as what his screens make it look.

The new blu-ray definitley looks too bright. The highlights are blown out. Like many said here, hopefully the UHD will fix all that. I'm patiently waiting for screenshots.

Yes, I did the same earlier today. Weird blocking/pixelated images.

It's what I am seeing back on The Matrix shots as well.

It's about time the scans pop up for real comparisons.

On iTunes, that’s what I see as well. I actually watched my BD copy two nights ago and yeah, between the two, the quality of the master is better here but it’s different in terms of the color consistency within the matrix itself.

Very curious about the UHD myself after looking at this.

Crap, I almost had a heart attack seeing that blockiness-pixelation. Good reminder no to trust some obscure sources for screenshots. Only caps or a few other trusted sources.

Its an automatic price adjustment refund. I got like $5 for Die Hard. $.80 cents for Braveheart and I think the same for Gladiator.

He's admitted as much. I commented on his King Arthur review about some issues in one of the caps, he replied that it wasn't visible on the disc.

Not to be overly critical, but we're at the point where review sites need to have PROPERLY captured screenshots in terms of compression. This shouldn't be happening in 2018.

We're also at a point where relying on screens from sources you don't know or trust, and relying on screens AT ALL is the definition of misguided. But almost all engage in it. At least to "guage" the direction it's heading, and cringingly to dictate their choice to buy or not.

The smarter thing is to listen to someone you trust if they have the disc and can report on it to you.

Nothing misguided about relying on screens. Provided screens are properly captured.

The smarter thing is to trust your own eyes.
