Dr Sleep is way better than Cell. Well that's what I thought anyway.

Dr. Sleep will be an odd sequel - people expecting a haunted house story like The Shining are going to be disappointed.
True but I was imagining it as a film whilst reading it and done correctly it could be great as I said. I don't remember any other films quite like this. It would have to be an 18 though really.

I think there's a danger in having everything explained to an audience. I always think there should be plenty of room for personal interpretation.

Besides, if one wants a detailed explanation and a source novel exists, that's really all that one needs.

The only reason they should make another movie of The Shining would be to do a faithful book adeptation of it.

I’m against a Shining prequel to Kubricks movie unless a great director takes the helm. There were rumors that the prequel they were gonna make would involve then building the hotel back in 1907 and about them repelling the Indian attack’s. That movie could work. It’s own genre but still in the universe of the shining. Could give it like a revanent feel.

I'm surprised Warner hasn't announced a 4K release.

Not particularly bothered about prequels in general, but there is lots of material for a prequel in the novel. The book goes into the history of the Overlook and the ghosts have a backstory as to how they ended up haunting the hotel.

Yeah that’s the novel though. I’m talking about Kubricks movie in which he left a lot of things unanswered and shouldn’t be explained.

Not that one is needed, but, with today's climate of returning to old material and adding to it (The Thing, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Karate Kid), I'm sure we'll see a prequel or sequel sooner or later.

I doubt anybody would attempt a direct prequel to Kubrick’s film. A few years ago Mark Romanek (who made the excellent Never Let Me Go) was attached to direct a prequel called The Overlook, more connected to the novel than to the movie. I think the adaptation to Dr Sleep will take a similar approach. Anybody out to copy Kubrick would set themselves up for unvavourable comparisons.

Yeah I know thats what I was talking about. There was speculation it was gonna be about them building the hotel in 1907 which I felt could have worked. It's own movie with just The overlook Hotel in the backdrop.

Mike Flanagan is a rather bland choice. I’m not a big fan of Dr. Sleep but, it needs a more interesting director.

He's not a groundbreaking visionary like Kubrick but the two movies of his that I have seen (Hush & Ouija: Origin of Evil) were both very good (planning to watch Oculus soon).

I think I’ve seen all of his films and while none of them are masterpieces, I’ve enjoyed every one of them. Definitely one of the better directors to work in horror right now.

I’ve only seen Oculus, Hush and Gerald’s Game. The first two were bad, but Gearld’s Game was pretty good.

Oculus is the film of his which works the least for me. Hush has no great ambitions, but it works fairly well as a deaf variation of Wait Until Dark. My favourite films of his are his first film Absentia, which despite being made on a tiny budget is one of the better Lovecraftian horror films and Before I Wake, a clever inversion of the premise of A Nightmare on Elm St.

I liked Ouija: Origin of Evil a lot. I haven't watched the first Ouija film

Saw this last night at the Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn.

Sixty-fifth time seeing it...

...first time seeing it in a theater.

Unba!!
