Not surprised with Disney's typical ATMOUSE soundtrack. We can still access the previous DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 with the new good looking video transfer right? That should still sound much better than the ATMOUSE.

You can still access the DTS audio, and yes, it is better.

Glad that they at least left that option in there. How much better is the 4K disc compared to the standard BD? I still have the standard BD that was released years ago, and that is still one of the best looking BD from Disney.

Ok, so the "6th channel" is the same sound sent to both SL and SR in order to image in between. Presumably, a traditional 6.1 would mix that extra channel to both SL and SR for those who don't have that single speaker. I think I might have a movie with 6.1, but I didn't realize that 'ES' was a thing.

_____________

Sincerely, can anyone provide a lead to come up with a contact at Disney home video? There's a small team, presumably, making these terrible decisions and IT MUST BE STOPPED before important releases come along. Lord forbid, we finally get a real Star Wars release and they ruin the audio.

Let's get something going so our concerns are made clear!

Has anyone redeemed the digital copy? If so, was it UHD? Thanks.

Yes and yes. Redeem at Movies Anywhere. It's currently UHD at Vudu.

Just finished watching the movie. My thoughts:

PQ: As with the majority of UHD's from upscaled sources, the image is tighter. Textures are crisper and easier to see, such as the subtle texturing on faces, the Underminer's digger at the end, all seem much more present on the UHD vs. the blu-ray (I did watch the blu-ray a few weeks ago, but I didn't directly compare). My tv is relatively low-nit but I still saw a healthy amount of highlights on it, though the HDR didn't seem too pushed. However, I did notice that the some of the shadow detail (especially in the backgrounds and mostly in the forest scenes) didn't have much dimension to them. One shot I remember is Bob walking through the forest the first time he gets to the island; the trees and their shadows are milky grey while his suit is darker. It's not an issue for the majority of the film though. Certain backgrounds seem to have less detail, and I feel this supports the previous thoughts I had that a 2004 animated film wouldn't necessarily have enough detail in the master files to warrant an entire native 4K re-render. The UHD is still a great presentation though, and in my opinion definitely worth the upgrade.

AQ: Very interesting AQ on this title. Definitely front heavy, but the bass is also definitely not compressed (I couldn't help but smile the first time the room shook). However, dynamics were definitely not the norm and the LFE seemed to lack more as the film went on, coming back in force in a few particular scenes but with a lower dynamic average. Not much surround activity throughout the film, and Atmos was basically non-existent: there were a couple of scenes that would have fit overhead action (i.e. when the ships fly overhead to get Dash, when Mr. Incredible pops back the top of the pod after landing on it) and it seemed like the overheads wanted to make a sound but ended up being drowned out by the fronts. Definitely seems like a Disney policy to make a more headphone/cheap soundbar/tv speaker friendly mix. Only rear activity I really noticed was right at the beginning, when the kids are fighting and Bob is in the other room. Again, I didn't directly compare with the old mix, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was more immersive.

Watched with a Sony 850D, Oppo 203, and 7.2.2 Atmos.

Also if anyone wants to know, it's a BD-66 with both old discs in a stacked case and it's mastered to 1000 nits.

I noticed the Blue Ray has Different Disc Art Than The Blue Ray from my 4-Disc Set of The Incredibles. I'll Definitely Keep That release but Wandering if This is worth The Upgrade? I Don't Have an Atmos Setup so That's A non Issue when it comes to What you guys Are Talking about but I'm considering Getting this and want to know is Worth getting it Over what I currently have.

Received my copy from Amazon. I see the website is out of stock. Guess I will return this as I doubt they will dropping the price. Not paying $40 plus for this lol.

Damn damn damn... I am 15 minutes in and the Atmouse mix’s dynamics are utter shit. Two obvious bits were when Mr. Incrdible uses the tree to stop the robbers in their car. The impact of the car hitting the tree is far less impactful than the original mix. Also when Mr. Incredible stops the train from going over the edge, when he comes in contact with the train it has much “crunch” in the borked mix.

Just to confirm, I switched audio tracks back and forth and replayed both instances so far and it is undoubtably different.

It is a crying shame since it seems like multichannel panning seem smoother, too. If the dynamics were on par, the atmos mix would definitely be the way to go.

Here's my brief--but to the point--review.

I go over the video quality, but definitely emphasize discussing the audio issues with Disney's Atmos implementation on their home releases, as it's becoming more and more increasingly frustrating.

Thanks. I greatly appreciate it.

This is exactly what is happening. The jerks in the home video department are clearly making family friendly soundbar or TV speaker mixes rather than making a separate mix for that and a balls out mix for the home theater enthusiast.

Wait so the regular release doesn't even have the new discs from the Steelbook?

On the other hand, the video is looking quite, quite marvelous. The burning building rescue scene just happened and it was incredibly rich in color. The texture in the skin and clothing throughout is quite a bit more palpable; the skin looks less smooth overall.

I have noticed mild aliasing, though. It’s more obvious in strands of hair, but it has shown up a tiny bit elsewhere in edges.

Is it worth the upgrade for visuals alone compared to the previous BD?

The steelbook doesn't have any new discs. Both releases are 3 disc sets with the UHD and 2 BD's from the previous release. The BD's just have new disc art.

Yeah I like that disc art and won't be getting the Steelbook, hence why I asked.

Another disney audio mix raped. They aint gonna change. This is how its gonna be from now on #kid friendly and soundbar friendly audio mixes

They are the worst studio right now. Even lionsgate is better

You can't just flip back and forth without adjustment. The volume can be dramatically different on each track.

What do you mean?

Using the OPPO, you can go from track to track, and the differences in audio are certainly night and day between the Atmos mix and the DTS-HD mix.
