Hi, I find it difficult to grasp what is meant by "the 8K's super-wide field of view" because I can't see the relationship between resolution and FOV. Sensor size and lens image circle and focal length would be indicative of FOV, but resolution, I don't know about. Yes, one can 'zoom in' to an image and thus change the FOV, maybe that's what was meant.

BTW, mostly just a lurker here, but I very much appreciate everyone sharing their knowledge.

er, what? A single camera operator can track a player from multiple angles? huh? The camera is in a single location, how can it track from different angles?

8K controlled camera drones in the sky, in sync with the main 8K ground camera.

How big is the smallest 8K camera at this time? How much power does it consume? Whats the flying time possible.

10 mins flying time.

Sure they might be a little smaller this year, but still a gonzo drone affair to deal with.

Over a sport stadium they can be attached to steel cables. ...Like they are now.

What does 8K have to do with anything, though?

Just a solution to multi angle 8K video recording at a sports event, rather then using a single camera with selective digital zooming.

But this whole discussion started because of an article touting some 8K-specific thing, and people were providing suggestions of what it could mean.

If the suggestions don't require 8K, it has nothing to do with it being a feature of 8K.

Are you playing with us, because 8k refers to an resolution, be it TV displays, camera’s, technology involved with recording 8k video, filming content, and where 8k is beneficial to industry/consumers.

You left out the sentence before that one. It still concerning 8k as 8k resolution.

But who can actually watch either of those videos?

As for the multi angle camera, that would work on any resolution.

I rather they slow down development and let the tech that is currently in use have a longer life span and the studios spend the money to make the correct resolution content.

Studio Content is the main source of material I watch on TV and they are upscaling alot of 2K+ content from with only some of it in true 4K. Untill that changes 8K is a long way off.

These youtube clips and demo clips is not something I would watch in at home. If I show off my TV to friends its with a clip from a film or TV show and not some youtube clip or demo clip that is played in stores.

The principle photography was shot on the RED Weapon at 8K. Image Engine had full access to the raw .r3d files and it's metadata. The final show was delivered as a 4K master. Image Engine worked on the project for about 13 months with a team that peaked at 70 artists.
Very interesting article.

8K: What Is it Good For?

It reads a bit like a RED camera add, but still an interesting read about the how’s and why’s of high res image acquiring.

Some folks believe that 8K TV is overkill, but cinematographer Phil Holland just flaunted video of New York City captured in sweeping 12K.
