Snake in the Eagles's Shadow, I think.

The Hong Kong Legends dvd was cut by 46 secs for animal cruelty.

Haven't seen it but there's a fight between a cat and a cobra!

It does look horrific - I'm a cat lover (
[Show spoiler]it wins the fight
) and the stills here (you'll need to scroll down the page) look despicable really:

I wish I wouldn't have seen those. And Jackie cheering about the fight.. left a bad taste in my mouth. That kind of sick shit should be cut from original source and burned. Needless animal cruelty, for entertainment. Sick.

Yes, I was referring to SITES.

The filmmakers tied the snake and the cat together and forced them to fight.
They almost certainly de-venomed the snake to make sure it couldn't win (as per the script). Murder, really.

That is NEVER getting passed the BBFC uncut.

I really hope the BBFC cuts don't effect Eureka putting Snake In The Eagle's Shadow out. On a personal level I have no interest in watching the scene so my view is tainted but it would be a damn shame to effectively shelve an entire movie because of it. Because the BBFC only cut the offending material these days I have no problem with it being carefully trimmed out and getting proper HD JC arse kicking instead.

I think they just used special sugar glass that was much thicker than standard, so it wasn't as lethal as real glass but was still pretty damn dangerous. You can see in the trailer that the glass in the Shopping Mall sequences is not fragmenting like normal sugar glass does when it's broken and is forming shards like proper glass would. They've even got that shot where JC goes head first into the glass and you have that nasty jagged shard that looks like it could have sliced open his face had he followed through the glass more. No way is that standard sugar glass.

Not to derail a thread, but we also have to understand some cultures don't have the same feelings towards cats/dogs that westerners have.. while we have them as pets, some have them as food.

I agree it's pretty sad, but when 'Milo and Otis' gets a free pass (yes, we don't see them on screen throw the cat off the cliff, but we know they did it numerous times).. it's hard to pass judgement.

As a lifelong vegetarian I have no problem with those scenes. I'm interested in stemming the tide of animal cruelty in the future and I'm not concerned about a few scenes that were filmed in Hong Kong 40 years ago. We're not glorifying it, and as far as I'm aware these practices are both illegal in filmmaking now and frankly no worse than what happens on meat and dairy farms most days of the week.

Pretty sure there is a scene at the end, during the outtakes, where he does cut his head on a pane.

There's no rule that says 'we' have to accept what's acceptable in other cultures. In some cultures FGM and forced marriage are acceptable... that mean we should be OK with it, too? Animal cruelty is abhorrent, and whilst we can't stop them doing it, we can stop watching it.

I don't know that M&O was given any kind of pass. I've seen it criticised plenty of times -- and it's cut by the BBFC (though I don't know what the exact cuts were -- maybe the scene you mention?).

Don't you find it difficult to watch?

Of course preventing future cruelty is the most important thing and thankfully it's something we see very little of on screen now.

We're talking about cruelty for entertainment here. Meat farming is another discussion.

This is from 40 years is it cruel yes, but cutting the scene is just another form of censorship. It wasn't just cruelty for entertainment, there was reason for the scene which made sense in the context of the film.

It's annoying when people try separate animal cruelty from meat production due thier own bias it's goes hand in hand whether like it or not.

Never seen a David Attenborough video? How many times does a Lion hunt and kill an Antelope, or whatever?

I'm more bothered when someone presents a carcass for dinner and then proceeds to pick its bones.

That's what happens in nature, it's natural, not staged (tying a cat and a snake together) for entertainment. Jeez these arguments gets weirder and weirder.

He asked if I find it difficult to watch, The answer was, I'm used to watching animal death on screen, I've watched it many times. I don't particularly relish it, but neither am I squeamish about it.

Sometimes I think people have to see the nasty crap mankind does. I don't condone any new filming of animal cruelty, but anything historic I'd be tempted to leave it in - if it were up to me.

If it makes people be a bit nicer to animals I'm all for it.

A. It WAS cruelty for entertainment. Not sure how you can come to any other conclusion?

B. Don't care if it's censorship. Some things need to be censored. Unless one were to advocate zero censorship, in which case it would be hard to argue against the likes of child p**n and rape videos.

It doesn't go hand in hand at all. This entire post is as much nonsense as I've read in a long time.

I can't watch those. Even though it's arguably for educational purposes.

Understandable. But it's an entirely different subject.

Because you're wrong.

Then if child p**n and rape were found in a movie would that be OK -- as long as it was made 40 years ago? I mean, we need to see how bad mankind is, don't we?

what's done is done is my view, cutting them out and pretending it didn't happen is worse

although we still do same today anyway, yet people say it's ok for this/that reason...

Bear Grylls is Entertainment yet as well as drinking his and other people's urine, he eats snakes a lot,and other animals(one episode he tied wild boar to a tree before killing it, yet he doesn't have to kill and eat them(it is still staged and wrong imo not real survival) just as bad as the low life poacher's and game hunter's etc
