I really wasn't too interested in it but at that price I'll blind buy it.

I dont care about slips, but Screams artist is light years ahead of this. A mongoloid child with wal-mart watercolors and a sharpie could do better than this.

Check out the original art on IMDB. This new cover is a revelation compared to that.

I have the DVD. The cover alone has made the disc go into my trash pile more than once. I keep pulling it out, thinking I may watch it again before it goes to the landfill.

I guess all the complainers would prefer that artwork, or maybe they just wanna complain because it's a Dark Force release and all the do is complain about what they are releasing or selling for CodeRedDVD.

Whatever happened to enjoying the damn movie?

NOT TRUE...no way is it scrubbed to death. We did a top HD transfer and tried to fix the color as best we could. Will never be perfect but way better than that trash DVD release. The green lines were hideous and in many of the critical scenes. So we did use a restoration process at Fotokem that only attacks the green lines and does not touch the rest of the picture. There's still plenty of grain in it. But frankly the green lines were so bad that even if it had become waxier it would have been an improvement. The blu-ray also gives it a great clarity that is not there on the DVD release or any of the other places where it's streaming and really terrible. Not to mention as part of the retro drive-in double feature you also get the much improved So Sad About Gloria as well as the nostalgic drive-in mode. If you are a fan of that era and these movies it's a must.

There are a few scenes mostly in the beginning with some flickering color that could NOT be corrected by color correction or we would have done it. What you should do if you have the DVD is watch that one and then watch the new one and you will immediately see the vast improvements. In my opinion the DVD is unwatchable and obviously I am not overly picky when it comes to these older restored releases

In this day and age, the idea of de-graining is absurd. DNR is a good thing when done sparingly but when it's overused, it turns a film into a smooth mess.
That's a very good question and I actually asked the technician at Fotokem doing the green line removal that very same question. The answer was that it varied with the skill and equipment of the person doing it. So like anything else if you have top people doing the work on the best equipment it's likely to look better than less skilled...which apparently there are many of.

My wife who would happily watch a screener and thinks that my buying of VS and other boutique labels releases is the biggest threat to our marriage saw part of The Carrier and asked what was wrong with it. She said it looked crap and wanted to know why I had bought the blu-ray of such a bad looking film, thankfully I only borrowed it as after all the feedback I read relating to it there was no way I was paying for it.

I know you catch a lot of shit here and other places on the net, some self inflicted other times not always warranted. I just wanted to say I rather enjoy your presence on this board and your honesty about you trying to learn and get better at this. Hope you stick around even if collectively you get beat up on around here.

If I were in your position, I would certainly mention that it's in no way acceptable for someone without skilled hands to be handling a project like this. Dark Force, you're paying good money to release these wonderful films and you should never have to put up with shoddy work based on incompetence at the lab. This is also a trickle down effect because, sales wise, you'll be looking at lower numbers with DNR. Film fans have come to expect a certain quality with their releases over the years.

I truly hope that Backlot Murders, Mirror Mirror, and Mirror Mirror 2 all maintain a healthy grain field. I put hard earned money toward these films and I don't wish to be disappointed due to unskilled people in the lab.

I stopped buying VCI titles due to this exact problem. Even if they release something extra special, I won't buy it due to the lack of quality control at some level of the process. While I appreciate that you looked into it, reassuring your fans that you'll make sure it doesn't happen again would do wonders for our confidence in your company.

Kidding aside. I actually really love that people like Jared, Bill, Walt and DeFalco hang out on these boards. It makes for an entertaining time and gives us information we normally wouldn't' have.

Maybe with your next release that has the green lines issue, you can have a poll; "Green Lines-Scrub 'Em or Leave 'Em. You'd at least have an opinion from the potential buyers of the product.

It's because OFFERINGS was licensed from Multicom and you were provided with their own HD scan. Multicom is NOTORIOUS for overusing DNR...MUTANT is a classic example. This is why Walt at Scorpion would insist on doing his own scans for Multicom titles he licensed. Soooo....FREEWAY 2...that may end up being a wax-fest as well (assuming it was shot on film).
