I am going to get these anyway. They have to be better than the HD-DVD's that I still have.

"GRAIN REMAINS INTACT" is all I needed to read. Phew, sounds more like Tomb Taider and less like Grease and I can worry a little less. Eager to check them out next week!

After this entire series and the two Ghost in the Shell anime movies getting expensive UHD releases in Japan next week my wallet is probably crying.

The first Tomb Raider movie had a fantastic new 4K master with beautifully intact grain.

It certainly was. These comments about colour being pushed too hard makes me wonder what displays some of these reviewers are using. Same was said about Gump which had very nice colour depth. About the only good thing going for it as a matter of fact.

Keep your third film on hd-dvd one as that has the video commentary, not on the new release I think I’m right in saying.

Does anybody know if the box set comes with the bonus disc from the third film?

The video commentary is forever stuck on HD DVD.

I’m waiting until it can be confirmed if 1 finally has its original mix back. I still watch the Laserdisc of that film as to date it was the best release available prior to the 4k disc.
Damn I really wish I was 4k ready at home. I’m dying to see what this looks like and have a fresh reference of a recent print screening last year.

It’s nice to see positive reviews coming in but I’m shocked they couldn’t be troubled to at least include the re-encoded foreign BD discs. You’d think that with these new releases they could do a new standard HD master for BD, streaming and the like.

I had the LD, it was WAYYYY overcooked. Just like the LD of Top Gun.

I quite like the Top Gun LD ac3 mix but haven’t gotten to see it theatrically to compare. It sounds dynamic on my system but never overcooked.
However M:I is supposed to be that way as the print sounds that way and even the LD 2.0 matrixed audio is identical in terms of dynamics and impact.

Both audio formats are lossless. If they've been encoded from the same source they should sound the same (dialnorm excepted)...

Cheers

Wish I’d kept my disc and player. I never actually watched it when I had it.

A lot of titles for LD had their tracks cooked, several titles really overdid the LFE.

To be fair it happens happens all too often today as well.

I just ordered the complete set of these movies in 4K, I'm looking forward to rewatching them in 4K and before Fallout comes out.

You said it didn't have a new master but the old master was like a DVD upscale and the new master is really 4K and has beautiful grain.
