Once you sign up, can you use it immediately? Or do you have to wait for them to send you your card before using?

You have to wait for your card because that's what they use to load the funds onto your account to pay for the ticket.

You can use it immediately at e-ticketing theaters if you happen to have any in your area. The website has a list of some of them. In my area the only e-ticketing theaters are Studio Movie Grill and Landmark Theaters. You’d have to wait for the card to use it anywhere else.

Ah okay, thanks for the responses

Do they charge you at signup (even though you have to wait weeks for the card ?) or has that wait time gotten better since when it first launched and there were so many complaints over that

You get charged at signup IIRC, but the wait time for the card in the mail is better than last year in the fall when everyone and their grandmother subscribed.

Edit: Looked at my e-mails, and while I signed up on 8/16, they charged me on the 19th and the same day every month thereafter.

If moviepass allows us to eventually purchase tickets online then the AMC one has nothing on it in my opinion. The freedom to go where I choose is huge for me and surge pricing isn't a huge deal for me because I typically don't care about the popular films like marvel/dc

I find it interesting how many want to see moviepass fail when its been such an incredibly useful and cheap sub to have.

Shhh. You’re using logic here and this thread does not allow that. We all have to hate this amazing service.

I did see Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom without issues or added fees with my Movie Pass today. I must have done something wrong because it was such a smooth experience. Even submitting a photo of my stub was painless.

I don't want it to fail. It's a fantastic, once in a lifetime market/equity sponsored mega-deal.

But its charging less than the cost of one movie (in most markets) for a nearly unlimited buffet of movies. Does anyone seriously think that would last?

Will likely never happen with anything but small theater chains. If they allowed it with chains like AMC, people would buy tickets from home even on days they dont actually go just to accumulate Stubs points

But don’t they still need to be present at the theater with their phone during the showtime? It’s no different than me going early in the day, buying the ticket for night, and actually showing up later with my phone otherwise they’d track me. And of course, the stub submission.

Allowing advanced purchasing would maybe even drive more people to subscribe so they have peace of mind on weekend evening screenings, all while still adhering to the rules once they’re at the building.

Email I just got from MP, despite dropping it yesterday.

Quote:
A Message To Our Members:

The revolution is happening now, and it is all thanks to you. In less than a year, three million pioneers joined us on our journey to see more great movies at an unbeatable price. And we want to thank you, our community, for your steadfast support of our company and growth.

In the spirit of innovation and growth, we are now announcing the next phase in the evolution of our product: Demand Pricing.

In the coming weeks, we will roll out three different upgrades to our base $9.95 service for our members.

Bring-A-Guest: MoviePass members will be able to purchase extra tickets to a showing of a movie right through the MoviePass app, so that you can seamlessly reserve seats for you and your friends (at e-ticketing partner theaters) to watch a film even if they aren’t MoviePass subscribers. As a benefit, if your friend signs up for MoviePass within 24 hours, we’ll refund the entire cost of the ticket!

Peak Pricing: MoviePass is committed to maintaining our low monthly price as we continue to grow rapidly. Rather than raise our prices or limit viewings, our plan has been to develop a new variable pricing system based on the demand for particular showtimes. Under this plan, if the combination of demand for a title, date or part of day is higher, subscribers may be asked to pay a small additional fee depending on the level of demand. You can avoid this peak surcharge by choosing an alternative date or film. We will also soon give subscribers one “peak pass” per month, allowing them to waive a Peak Price surcharge once per month. Annual and Quarterly subscribers will not incur peak pricing until their current subscription term ends and then renews.

Premium Showings: MoviePass members on any plan will soon be able to access RealD 3D, IMAX 2D or 3D, and other Premium Large Format showings of any film for an additional upgrade fee.

These features are being tested currently and will slowly roll out to all our members over the next several weeks.

Our aim is to create the most flexible and cost-efficient product, so that we don’t have to simply raise the price on the subscription. We appreciate your flexibility as we evolve our service to keep MoviePass at a low cost. We can’t express how much we value all of you for being part of that vision.

Thank you.

I love how Moviepass tries to play off adding a Peak Pricing fee as an "upgrade".

Remember how you could buy the fridge in The Sims, but then you had to pay when you opened the fridge if you wanted to use it?

All I know is in Chicago one movie ticket can be upwards of 15 dollars, movie pass really did do something revolutionary and rattled AMC enough to copy them.

Then cancel your subscription, at least they are offering one waiver a month.

You can “reserve” etickets for some theaters and earn points for them. I do with Starlight Cinemas.

If an IMAX theater charges a particular price, we would set a fee that's based on standard tickets in your area.
"

So premium prices are going to be different for most, all depending on how the pricing is at your local theaters.
IMAX/3D/IMAX 3D prices vary in my area A LOT. I don't understand why.

Have they said anything about how exactly the surge pricing works? And will you be able to see the cost before you go to the theater, or do they surprise you at the counter?
