It will be based on availability of tickets, when the demand for a ticket overwhelms availability then surge pricing kicks in. How they determine availability is unknown. Since you will be informed of surge pricing, you can opt to choose a different time or movie. Also, Movie Pass will offer a monthly single use waiver for surge pricing. You’ll get one for August, September, etc. to use as you wish. |

Gonna be fun to check the app at home and it's all, "You're good. You're good." and then you get to the theater and it's like, "PEAK PRICING!!"
![]() ...and no, I don't care if some rando employee said on Reddit that it's "not likely" to happen. Not likely =/= Won't happen. |

Ok so someone please break it down for me as I have not been keeping up with the thread recently.
I got the email explaining everything but the peak surcharge section mentions nothing about getting charged on opening weekend like I've read in the last pages, unless they meant that by "choosing an alternative date or film"? Also, will I know ahead of time what movies or dates will have the peak surcharge or you find out once you're in the theater about to check into the movie? |

Employees on Reddit can say whatever they want, look at the leak of AMC’s A-List. A-List was confusing because of that leak but the official information was more clear. Same thing here: MoviePass clarified how it works and yes, it sucks. But they don’t want to push the subscriber price up and would rather do multiple added charges throughout the month. Instead, you have to go a theater and hope it checks you in and doesn’t ask for more money or get your eticket and hope no added charge is included. Of course, annual and quarterly subscribers should not see surge pricing but cynics will say it will happen. So there’s that. I understand criticism of the changes and some suck but one alteration was definitely requested. It wasn’t executed the way people wanted or the way that would make sense but it happened. |

But when you reserve an eticket or check in, it will tell you if there is an added charge. Then you can choose another time or another movie or cancel. |

Is anybody else's app not showing movies that you have seen as "you've already seen this movie." I have seen tag, incredibles 2, jurassic world 2 and all seem as if I could see them again. Solo and Avengers still are greyed out. So have they rescinded they only see a movie once except for marvel and star wars?

I'll be curious how surge pricing ends up rolling out.
Usually for one the theaters I frequent that has assigned seating, if my friends and I who all have MoviePass want to make sure we get seats on opening weekend we go grab our tickets when the box office opens in the morning for the afternoon or evening showing. I'll be curious if we surge pricing when buying our tickets earlier in the day. Even if I continued paying my $9.95 a month until I paid a full year I'm down to $2.61 a ticket, so I'm happy with the value I've gotten so far. No complaints so far from me on MoviePass. |

The surge pricing might be the deal breaker that gets me to switch to AMC or a competitor.
I wouldn't mind if you can view the additional cost from home, so I can dodge those times. But being that some of the theaters are 30 minutes or more away, I don't like the idea that you don't know until you get there. |

I've seen 77 movies with MoviePass since August 17th.
That means my average price per movie comes to $1.42 per theater visit. No matter what this company does in the future, what rules they change, what they decide to charge going forward; it's been extremely worth it so far. |

An official Moviepass spokesperson was commenting in this Reddit thread about the new policies: https://www.reddit.com/r/MoviePassCl...=MoviePassClub
Based on what they said, it seems like there will basically be a ticket allotment for "popular" showtimes, so if you get a ticket within that you get no surcharge, but once they reach the limit then the surge pricing kicks in. It's also being determined by market, not just a blanket nationwide amount, so more popular areas like big cities will have a higher allotment to account for the larger amount of people, etc. Luckily for me (and I know this isn't the case for everyone), my girlfriend and I tend to always just go to the first showing of a movie on weekends, we're never there at night, so I have a hard time believing any sort of allotment will be fulfilled by then--especially since Moviepass subscribers can't buy in advance, so if it's the first screening of the day, anyone else with MP will likely be there around the same time as us. The only time we really see a big blockbuster release at night is during the Thursday night screenings, which we go to often, and admittedly I'm not sure how popular those would end up being. Worth noting too in the Reddit thread they mention that the app is going to tell you when something has surge pricing or when it's getting close to surge pricing. |
