Default Magnavox NB530MGX blu-ray player- mystery model?

After reading Consumer Reports's review on the Magnavox NB500MG9 (Wal-Mart), I settled on this low budget, but quality blu-ray player. I went to Wal-Mart, and asked for the NB500MG9 and they sold me an NB530MGX instead (I didn't notice the switch until I got home and pulled out the manual to set it up). I've looked everywhere online - Funai's website, Magnavox's website, Wal-Mart's website, and have Google searched a million times and have come up with zero information (or even search hits) on this player.

I called Funai customer support, and not a single person there has ever heard of this model. Does anyone know anything about the Magnavox NB530MGX? What is the story on this mystery model?

Thanks for any/all feedback on this!

While I have no information on that exact model, it isn't uncommon for a manufacturer to change model numbers on a product that is destined to be sold by specific stores (e.g., Walmart, Best Buy, etc.). This allows the store to advertise that they will beat anyones price "on the same make and model" of an item.
Craig

Then again, I just now noticed the significant difference in numbers...both suffix and #. Kind of unusual of the scenario I described. Oh well....as long as it works and you're happy with it it's all that matters!

Default Magnavox NB530MGX blu-ray - Help

Thank you Craig. There are certain features I was looking for in my br player, and the NB500MG9 fit the bill for both budget and for features. If this NB530MGX model is the same as the NB500MG9, or has the same set of features then I'll be perfectly content! The problem is that Magnavox also has the NB500MS9 out, which does not have the same features and is a much lower feature model than the MG9. What I'm hoping someone can tell me is if the 530MGX is the same as the 500MG9 or 500MS9, or if it's altogether different. No one at Funai or Wal-Mart knows anything about it, so I'm pretty perplexed at this point.

Anyone have any insight?

Thanks!

Yep, it's a new model - so new that the manufacturer still doesn't have support or specs available for it. They say specs and support information won't be available until at least next month, but maybe 2-3 months later. I'm not sure how they are able to sell a model without any information on it available via the support line, or website. They said to call back in February, and hopefully they'd have more info. Wal-Mart finally put it up on the website, but only list the features info that's on the outside of the box - not super helpful.

I've never seen a blu-ray before, so I have no basis for judging the quality of this player. In your opinion does this Magnavox give you great picture quality for blu-ray, film, and video-based DVDs? Does it do a good job upconverting standard dvd's to HD?

Thanks for your feedback!

Red face Magnavox blu-ray player

I have the same blu-ray player too. I got it at Walmart. I need to find out the region codes to be able to watch a dvd that I got on E-Bay, it came from Australia. So its a region 4 dvd, and I live in Region 1. I need to change the region code in the player to watch the disk. If you have any codes, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

FYI: This thread is essentially redundant. The player is made by Funai and branded as Magnavox, there is a huge thread on the Funai players here.
