Evil Dead 2 is definitely a Studio Canal film and i bet Lionsgate/Anchor Bay has given up ED 1.

I'm willing to bet a substantial amount of money that this will not happen next week. Next year? Perhaps, but not next week.

Bring on Trick or Treat though... that'd be a major win.

I think Vestron might do that since it's a Studio Canal film

I mean Silver Bullet is owned in the US by Paramount. Paramount rarely licenses their films out (Kino, Olive)
What I'm saying is I just prefer to get a release that was coming from where I live and not over seas, I have no issue if that release is all region or region locked.
I'll use a hypothetical scenario using Paramount, say SF got the licenses to Silver Bullet but sales were low because Silver Bullet already had a release with a foreign distributor who had already released it in a all region bluray. Thus splitting the US/Canada sales of the film. I'm sure this could prevent both SF and or Paramount from giving or getting licenses for other films due to past poor sales.
I'd prefer to wait until a film gets a proper release in my country so I helped contribute to the sales and the getting of more films.

The only person this hypothetical situation would affect is Bill.

Your only picking up on one part of that. yes it would effect Bill but also customers who don't own an All region player or like to pay more for over seas purchases. Plus some films aren't always owned by the same studios in foreign countries.

I understand that position, but there's just no certainty that Next of Kin will ever get another US release. Nobody seems to know who, if anyone, actually holds the US rights and the original film elements, themselves, are probably located in Australia.

Btw, love your avatar
I just watched Eyes of a Stranger again today. It had been awhile so I pulled out my 2007 DVD and gave it a watch.

Thanks, I love Showgirls. Gina Gershon was so hot and Elizabeth Berkley wasn't bad either. I was 16 when it opened in theaters on September 22, 1995 and obviously my hormones were working overtime. I had watched Berkley regularly on Saved by the Bell and couldn't believe she was doing this NC-17 movie. Unfortunately, there were no theaters within 100 miles of me that showed the film and me being 16, I wouldn't have been allowed in anyway. (only 18 and above) So, I had to wait for the VHS (rental) in January or February of 1996. Now, I can also appreciate other things the film offers such as the humor and its style and look. It's beautifully photographed and it's a lot of fun, too. It didn't deserve the hatred it got upon it's 1995 release.

I agree, it might never get a proper release in US/Canada and getting the Umbrella release is probably the best bet.
I'm just saying that Umbrella has been around for a long time and I wish they would pull an Arrow and start doing a dual release especially with the amount of Ozploitation films that have never been released on DVD/Blu in the US/Canada it's a peice of the market they could definitely profit from.

Didn't know about the alternate cut of Curtains. That really sucks, especially since it happened not too long ago.
As for Deadly Friend, maybe there's a surviving workprint tape of the original cut somewhere that Scream could use to extract a few new scenes from, but I seriously doubt they'll be able to locate film elements for the DC.

I've got the DVD-R that Warner Archive put out years ago, but the transfer is really disappointing. It doesn't look much better than a VHS. I wish it could get the remastering that VCI gave to Dark Night of the Scarecrow. That would be amazing.

Curtains situation was very tragic, I respect Synapse Films for letting the the fans know what had happened, but it was still a shock that in this day and age that any remaining footage for a film would be destroyed after being held in a storage space for more then 30 years, It seems like after producer Peter Simpson passed away someone got it in their heads to destroy everything he had been saving.

I'm praying for a surviving workprint tape of Deadly Friend!!

And yet, now that we're saving and storing everything digitally, I can only imagine this 'lost footage' trend will become even more of a concern moving forward.

I mean, if stuff like Little Shop of Horrors's 1986 original ending and the missing footage of Nightbreed can be found and restored, anything is possible. Now while nothing can be guaranteed, WB is better at preserving film elements than others (hence why many old WB TV shows can be properly remastered). But it would be an expensive project for restoration like this, hence why it doesn't happen a lot.

I could see in the future of Scream making a collector's edition of Little Shop of Horrors (maybe even putting the found deleted scenes as extras, or even in another cut [would love to see the full Meek Shall Inherit restored]).

I was not aware that there was a different ending to the original Little Shop of Horrors. What release is it available on? I love that movie. I knew there were different endings of the 80s musical with Rick Moranis, but the original flick is so much better. I'd be really interested in seeing any differences.
