I'll get HIII if there is a worthwhile upgrade in PQ. Also will probably pull the disc out and sell the Steelbook

I thought SF had a 5 year licensing deal with Universal for the Halloween films? They got the rights in 2012 so wouldn’t it be passed the 5 year window?

The only thing I never needed to get was the box set. I have nothing but individual releases. The only things I really needed when the mega box came out were the Producer's Cut of 6, which came out separately, and a Blu version of the TV cut of 1 that I never watch. DVD is fine. (Scenes are on the 35th blu anyway.) I don't mind collecting everything in separate cases. I've got a whole shelf of Halloween.
I had first film, the CE's of 2 and 3, and sold those in anticipation of the box. Then I had an order in for the box with that $19.99 TCM glitch, but it was never fulfilled. Then I saw the reviews of the box that the PQ on several of the films wasn't really much of an upgrade at all even over lousy Echo Bridge releases. So between the bitterness of missing out on the $19.99 price, and the quality issues, I decided I wasn't all that interested. I'm not much of a fan of the sequels anyway. But if there was a better quality "complete set" I'd probably go for it.

All I really care about would be 4K/UHD of the 1st two, but if a better complete box was made available I'd probably look at it.

Well these are new masters, so maybe it's a new deal?

It would've had to be an extension of the deal. Obviously Universal likes working with Shout due to all their catalogue titles Shout highlights.

Yeah, I would guess it's the Anchor Bay and/or Lionsgate part of this deal that was limited, esp. since Shouts H2 and 3 first came out almost 6 years back, well over 5.

H4 desperately needs a new master. We haven’t seen a release with the correct color grading since the original 2001 DVD

That is incorrect. The US theatrical release had some significant gore cut. Two main examples I can think of is that you see full head separation of the bum, and the eye gouging scene is worse. No US home release has restored these scenes.

German home video releases did. The mediabook release is the fully uncut version never released here in the states.

Didn't know there were comparisons out yet. I should look into it. But I'm with you. Gonna wait to see PQ differences.

What's funny is part 2 is getting a nice treatment...just before it's retcon(n)ed. The Halloween series is basically the film equivalent of Choose -Your-Own-Adventure now.

I own this edition. I've watched the Blu-ray a couple of times, i personally didn't notice anything wrong with the audio, quite the opposite, it sounds good to me.

The 35th Anniversary Edition included a mono fold-down of the remix instead of the actual original mono soundtrack. It was corrected for the box set the following year (and an additional commentary was added). Not sure if it was ever fixed on later pressings of the single disc version.

An easy way to tell right off the bat are the extra thunderclaps during Dr. Loomis's first scene in the car.

Not to mention the original audio.

Although I think the first DVD release was in '98 or '99.

How can you tell?? Is it....

Extra thunderclaps = not actual original mono

Or are the extra thunderclaps = the original mono??

Enlighten me

That steelbook is a UK edition. Did it have the same mono issue as the US 35th?
