They should have announced the expected timeline for the S2 release by the time S1 had released. I'm also wondering what their timeline is for these releases. Don't want to have to spend another 7 years picking these up.
For now I'm picking nothing up in anticipation of a boxset next year. |

I'm hoping as much gets released as possible by the time the series ends. I decided a few years ago I will watch this show but only once the series is over so I can avoid cliffhangers. But once it's over, that's it, I'm buying whatever's available and watching it. UHD is definitely my preference!

I'm starting to get worried they aren't going to be releasing any more seasons...
While I have watched all 6 seasons 'real time' I started watching Season 1 again. I'm really enjoying it - a lot different when you know the characters and history - extremely enjoyable from both content and PQ Ideally the other 5 seasons would precede the final season debut... |

That's the main reason I didn't buy it. I'm not going to go through years of hand-wringing again, with a huge chance that I'll end up massively disappointed. It's not even close to being worth the agony guaranteed to be involved. |

The Sopranos taught many a lesson about HBO sets.

It will be another 5 years before streaming starts taking over the video market. They've got to get the whole internet shit figured out before that happens.

of course HBO is going to release the other seasons of GoT in UHD...100%...they were just slow to embrace 4K and are just now starting to embrace the format...do you really think they aren't going to release their most popular show ever in UHD?...they're going to milk it like Lord of the Rings with multiple boxsets and releases over several years

They wouldn't want to "compete" against themselves by allowing 4K of their property on other mediums. There was talk of HBO providing 4K streams on their apps possibly late fall, but that was a while ago and frankly I have not heard anything about it since. Any "cable" entity is going to lag as far as providing 4K content whether its via streaming, satellite or any other delivery simply because cable systems either don't have the infrastructure or desire to invest in 4K, at least until the market share of devices in 4K hits the 50% plateau. |

There is quite a bit of difference between SyFy (a COMCAST entity) which relies on commercials and also may not be as widely seen compared to HBO (owned by Time Warner/Warner Media) which is a pay television channel that relies on subscriptions for income.

Of course, AFTER season 8 airs, they could then release "complete series" sets in both formats. |

I'm all up for a 4k collection, but I'll still need my normal blu-ray boxes, since most are limited editions with a bonus disc. Bonus discs that are likely not included in the 4k box sets. Plus the blu-ray boxes look amazing, so I don't mind the double dip. |

The fact that they have multiple series of GoT coming out in the future, guarantees that every season here gets released on 4K.

Apart from season 8, there are 6 more seasons to release and the last season supposedly has 6 episodes, so one season released every week while the last season airs is a pretty good possibility. Obviously, the last season would be released at a later date.

Like I mentioned earlier, I think all the 4K restorations have already been done and are "In the can" so to speak. Whether they release these on UHD or via an app or 4K cable channel is a different story.
As far as dd'ing, I'd perfer the editions to be UHD only, since I already have the blu's and the first 3 seasons were BD/DVD. The UHD versions are expensive as it is. yep, season 8 is supposed to be only 6 episodes, I guess we'll have to see after editing if these will exceed the 1 hr time slot. I would guess the season premiere would be an hr and a half, while the final between that and 2 hrs long. Season 8 is shaping up to be more of an "event" than previous seasons. I'd still expect the usual "4 discs" for this set however. The hype beginning around Christmastime will be unique. Don't be surprised if there is a "push" of more UHD seasons around this time. |
