people are more important than blu-ray movies. i have no problem letting people/friends/family borrow movies. i can always get the movies again. i can't always get friends or family again. the movies aren't worth it. if i felt i was becoming what i thought was too stingy i'd get rid of all of my movies. i just don't care that much about movies enough to place them over people. sorry.

I'm very anal about my discs as well. I do not loan my discs out to anyone. No one can take better care of them then I do.

I still have my very first DVD purchased back in 1995/96 and the disc, cover-art, and case are in MINT condition.

It's gotten to the point that my friends don't even ask anymore.

But at $20-60 for some of these movies. It can get pricey if these get destroyed, not all friends/family will replace them. If they where $5 not as big as a deal, but these can be finically expensive.

Family are usually the first ones to screw you over.

Maybe you have trustworthy family, but my family will screw you over in a heart beat. Friends can be the same way, I only trust one friend with my Blus. But she does not have one.

so what if they screw you over? is you're life going to be over? no. if one of my family or friends screwed me over on a movie i wouldn't sweat it. i'd just buy it again at some point. it's not worth getting worked up about. and certainly not worth loosing family or friends over.

I been screwed out of a few $100 from my older brother... When your making about $500-800 a month. That's a pretty penny, I don't think I want to add Blu to that. But you start with Blu, where does it stop?

it doesn't. they're you're friends and family. you should always be there for them. will they screw you over? sure, at times they will. but then you may too. and when you need them you want them to be there for you no matter what. do onto others.....

The only people I know with BD players are my dad (dont mind) and my close buddy (dont mind).

I know they'll take care of them... they know how anal I am about stuff like that. I think I get it from my dad (a big vinyl collector).

the only person i know with a blu ray player besides myself is my dad, and we usually dont watch the same kind of movies, so i dont worry about him asking to borrow some, but i stopped lending DVDs to people when the last time i loaned some to a few girls at my school, at the end of the semester they moved out early and didnt return them, and i havent seen them since, super weak

first off, and i dont mean this offensively, i think you're taking this a little too seriously. i'm pretty sure everyone here agrees people are obviously more important than movies....not letting them borrow one isn't the same as saying blu-rays are a higher priority. it's not like the OP's asking who would you choose to spend time with for a year, family/friends OR bluray choose one. i seriously doubt not letting someone borrow a blu ray movie will result in them spiting you forever and never being there for you again...if they do they have some relationship issues to work out.

if you bought a new lamborghini and your kid brother who just turned 16 and got a license wanted to take it joyriding with his friends, would you immediately let him? i'm pretty sure no one in their right mind would, and that isn't saying you chose the car over him. it's normal to be wary of possessions you personally hold in high value. someone else might not as much, and that's the situation the OP is asking about.

friends (and family for that matter) that wouldn't be your friends anymore for the sole reason that you wouldn't let them borrow a blu-ray movie don't sound like true friends to begin with. i've never had someone altogether stop being friends with me because i wouldn't let him borrow something. yeesh that'll be the day

because someone else obviously wanted to talk about it. there are hundreds of better topics i could think to talk about, but there are hundreds of worse ones to. it's just a thread.

i know. i'm just saying that i personally would never keep friends or family from borrowing movies if they want. it's the nice thing to do. and i'm not so worried about them scratching it up or losing it.

i actually probably would. i just don't hold a lot high stock in such things i guess. and it's not that i'm wasteful or flippant about money either. i guess i just never really cared that much about these types of things. i'm not what you would call a collector in terms of blu-ray and such. i love them, but i also don't really take pride and utmost care in them. not something i fuss over i suppose

they probably wouldn't, but i just find it, personally speaking, rude not to let them borrow stuff. i would hope they would do the same for me. do onto others and all that jazz.

If I asked a friend to borrow a movie, and they said "I don't loan out my movies" I'd be offended.... it's like saying they don't trust you.

I'd let a friend borrow a t.v., PS3, and stack of blus if they wanted.......

I'd only let my family and close friends borrow my Blu-Rays because i know for sure, they will handle them with care.

I like you P.O.V But, some friends family members can be irresponsible with your property and you have to close the door on a few of them.

i like your outlook/perspective and you make very good points (altho i still wouldn't let someone take my new car out right away if i got one ). and i myself have frequently let friends borrow movies (not blurays simply bc none of my friends have bought into it yet ). for me it just varies on the person. if i have a friend i trust i'll unquestionably let them and many of them i do, but if i have a friend who i know just leaves their movies lying around, steps on them, etc (which some of them do ), i generally won't let them borrow my stuff. to copy off what you said, i wholeheartedly agree that people should do unto others etc etc...i expect someone else to treat my stuff just as i would treat theirs: with respect. that's what it comes down to for me.
