Lee Marvin was cool in a badass way. He was just a guy I would never want to mess with... not just on screen but in real life. Coburn was cool in a laidback 60s way. He was just a classy guy in every way possible and he showed a great sense of humour in many of his films. I always remember being thrilled when he made a comeback in the 90s culminating in his Oscar win because he spent much of the 80s out of commission with health issues related to severe arthritis (if you look closely in his later movies you can see the effects of this on his hands which looked very gnarled). |

That era produced a group of leading men the likes of which we'll never see again: Marvin, McQueen, Coburn, Newman, etc.

I have quite a few film I've gotten for free and a ton I paid less than $3 for. Most of which should be pretty obvious based on what the real core of the collection is, which consists of what looks like a film schools library. I have an amazing collection for someone where other hobbies take up even more of my resources. You won't find anything mock worthy that I paid anywhere close to retail for unless you count some twilight time releases, which probably wouldn't be advisable in this thread. Me too. According to tracking, it should arrive today! It's a blind buy for me and when I was reading up on it I was fascinated by James Shigeta's biography - I only knew him from Die Hard but he had a very interesting life and career.

"The Crimson Kimono" is a damn fine noir. I will say I'm slightly disappointed that the video quality is a little rough around the edges, especially compared to a lot of other Sony-Columbia B&W remasters; the elements were probably in poor condition.

Of course not. Any existent deals would have to be honored even with a merger

Or vice versa: TT didn't want to release as many titles per month as MGM/UA wanted, especially since they had to pass on so many titles because of poor master material.

I think the main difference is that Marvin had leading man charisma in spades while Coburn was often better-suited in supporting parts. I confess to not having seen the Flint movies though, so I'll try to be on the lookout. For the longest time they were nothing more than a vague Austin Powers reference to me. I agree with the other user (and many like him) though, you simply don't get that caliber of leading man anymore. I would have loved to have seen Marvin and McQueen share the screen, what pyrotechnics! |
