Did you exchange the M for a different M and it was fine?

The TV’s fine with other Dolby movies like Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Last Jedi.

Since every one is ranking MIs, here is mine order:

1) MI:4
2) MI:6
3) MI:1
4) MI:5
5) MI:3
6) MI:2

Latter 3 films overall better than the first three....in my opinion (though I like MI:1 a lot).

I exchanged for the P since it was on sale at only $100 more but ultimately returned the P for an OLED after 4 weeks. I noticed that black levels on both the M and P were fluctuating quite a bit. I really liked them both but after my P started doing odd things I was scared off from that years line.

So far, 1-4 have all frozen on my UBP-x700, each at nearly the same time. It's frustrating. I had to unplug last night. Once it restarts the scene and the rest of the movie play without fault. I am finishing 4 tonight, so I am curious if it will freeze after starting it part way through the movie.

Check in the X700 thread what they say about that freezing issue.
You could start by cleaning the discs, even if they are already clean.

With Blu-ray and DVD I never cleaned my discs...easily over 10,000
With 4K discs I clean many of them...over few dozens. They had a foggy cloud on the playing surface, a manufacturing issue of some sort. But cleaning them restored their lustre.

Just saw Fallout, not as good as I hoped through all the hype, but still better than Rogue Nation..

My order starting with the best ones (in my opinion)
1. Ghost Protocol
2. MI3
3. Fallout
4. MI2
5. MI1
6. Rogue Nation

Can't wait to get them all on 4k, probably gonna wait for the 4k bundle that also includes Fallout

It's good you ranked MI3 high.

It's bad you ranked MI5 low.

Weird, well this is the first time I've ever had a real issue with my Vizio M65-E0, so it's not going to make me buy a much more expensive TV. What I'm really worried about now is that my favourite movie of the year will also be messed up in 4K, Fallout.

I'm thinking there must be something up with the Dolby Vision layer. I was hoping to force it to HDR10. Black levels have been fine with everything else, except for Battlefront II on PS4 in HDR.

Nice ranking, that would be the same as mine. It's close between MI:1 and MI:5 for me but I think you're right that MI:1 edges it out.

I thought Ghost Protocol was incredible back in 2011, and it's still great, but I just rewatched it and the last two really have gotten much better. I remember initially feeling slightly disappointed that Rogue Nation didn't quite have the style of GP, but RN is really when the character writing got so much better. Ethan just doesn't really feel like a character in retrospect in Ghost Protocol.

Fallout really is far and away the best of the series. The characters, writing, music, set pieces, stunts, tension, music, all got so much better.

1 - Fallout
2 - Rogue Nation
3 - Ghost Protocol
4 - III
5 - I
6 - II

MI:1 has huge sentimental value to me (a factor). It is more a spy flick than an action flick. Depending on my mood, it may be my favourite MI (on certain days).

As Tom Cruise gets older I can see him winding down the stunts and ramping up the espionage elements in the Mission series going forward. In effect going full circle back to the original film in style.

I don't have time to read through this whole thread but what is the consensus on these 4K releases?

Regardless of how you feel about the movies themselves they are all very good transfers. If you like the films, you won't be disappointed. IMHO, Ghost Protocol is probably the best looking disc, but they're all quite nice in their own way.

The two last ones look very very good.
The first one is a big improvement.

As for ll and lll:

When you get three might as well get them all; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

2 is a huge improvement also. The only transfer I was disappointed with is 3.

Yeah 2 is a massive improvement just like 1. Can't imagine saying otherwise.

Picked up GP for tomorrow night's viewing pleasure. Should be fun! One of my favorite franchises that never disappoints. Espionage thrillers are one of my favorite genres (MI, Bourne, Homeland, etc.) for sure and the Bourne series holds up quite well in comparison although they seem to be reversed in terms of critical response with the latest from MI being phenomenal (loved Rogue Nation) and the latest from Bourne being duds. I love them all, though!

I have just finished watching MI:II, which I had NEVER seen.... and it's probably the worst movie I've seen in a long time (note that there's probably worse movies but I simply tend to stay away from bad movies altogether. I was force to watch this one simply I bought it)

My main problem is that it feels totally different from the rest of the serie.
