Default is it just me

Is it just me or am I the only one that would rather have letterbox. I think a lot of times the picture looks better in 2.35.1 etc. I almost won't buy a dvd/blu if its not.

"So when is Star Wars coming to blue-ray? Is it going to have black bars like the DVD? How grainy is it going to be?"

Does that qualify as a newbie hat trick?

To the OP, black bars usually indicate that you are viewing the movie with all of the visual information that the director wanted you to see. To eliminate black bars on a 16:9 display, you either need to stretch or crop the image if the original source has an aspect ratio of something other than 16:9. This is an unacceptable compromise to anyone seeking to replicate the look of the original film as closely as possible. If it's any help, you will most likely be less troubled by letterboxing the more material you watch that uses it.

Default why

why lock the thread. I am new here and would like to see other thoughts on this. I for one prefer the black bars. Most people don't it seems. I was just wondering how many people do.

Well, there are already at least 100 threads on this subject that already exist on this forum. If you want to know more about a particular topic, I would suggest clicking on the "Forum" link at the top of the Blu-ray.com homepage and using the "Search" link on the subsequent page prior to posting a new thread.

Honestly, for those of us who visit this site daily, it gets tiresome having to see these threads monopolize the "Recent Thread Posts" list when the same questions have been answered LITERALLY a thousand times. Seriously, this topic shows up at least once a week... if not more. And, it isn't the only topic that does. There are at least 15 topics that keep resurfacing over and over and over again as new threads.

I'm probably the most patient person on these forums when it comes to topics like this. But, it is certainly starting to tweak me just ever so slightly.

Default This is what you should do

Take back your expensive Monster cable and use the money to put towards one of these televisions. Problem solved.

Black bars are our friends!

Click on the video link on my signature. I'm sorry my friend but you got ripped-off on those "monster cables, the best you can buy for 1080p Blu-ray players."
