Sometimes I get frustrated with all the nay-sayers when it comes to the quality
of blu-ray. when I try to explain the HD experience they look dumbfounded ![]() unimpressed ![]() I've tried to invite them to see The Dark Knight, Speed Racer or Blade Runner. Just to show them the quality and they just don't seem to understand the extra dimension the HD can give you. Being a total movie geek I'm grateful to have a decend HT setup, so I can trully watch the movies as they where intended to be! Have you guys been dissapointed by the lack of enthusiasm of the general public? ![]() And have you tried to convert the dvd-loving mortals? |

I had a ladyfriend over the other day and we were watching Event Horizon, which has really nice PQ by the way. After about 10 minutes, she says "whats the difference between Blu Ray and regular movies?". Now either my TV is garbage (it is not...at all), or she was just ignorant to hi-def technology. I went with ignorance. I damn near kicked her out.

I converted one of my friends to get a blu-ray player and he picked up the Dark Knight and the Hulk and seems hooked like I am. I had a girl over the other night and showed her Planet Earth and she was more than impressed.
I think it will take a lil time for it to catch on I see more and more people in the blu aisles at best buy though, so thats a good sign. I don't see how movies to download is going to catch on. I'd rather own it and have it in my hands then on a computer. |

For some people, the differences are not as noticeable because this arena of technology is simply not important to them. In the end, just watching TV is enough. Point out the differences, and some may take notice, but it may not change how important it is to them. Of course, we on the forums are another sort all together.
Take automobiles for instance. Some people love luxurious appointments and high-tech availability, while others are happy with basic features (even preferring them) and just getting from A to B. And it's not always a money-issue which differentiates these two extremes. It's just a matter of what one cares (not not cares) about. I'll stick with Blu-ray and it's fantastic PQ and AQ. ![]() |

Had some friends over the other night. Dude liked my set up, but when I mentioned Blu-Ray, he told me that "It has already died" and the "upconverted DVD are just as good".
So, I showed him Planet Earth on DVD then on Blu (both from my PS3-same equipment). His jaw dropped. His wife the looked over and even she was impressed (but she assumed I had a better TV). He is now shopping for a Blu Ray player... |

Haha Im from Atlantic Canada too, Ive been trying to get my family and friends to convert and its harder then you think.
Some people dont know what the difference should be and they go ahead and get a big screen LCD, get a blu ray player, Hi-Def cable etc and end up pluging everything in using an RCA cable and brag about the PQ.........All the money spend and they use a Walmart RCA Cable......UGH |

I know exactly how you feel. Luckily everyone I work with is like us, nice home theaters and very much into high def.
I went to rent a blu ray from a local video store a couple weks ago and the lady asked me if I had a blu ray player. I was kind of shocked, cause the blu rays were in a completely seperate section of the store. When I told her yes, she proceeded to explain to me that blu ray was a scam, because you could get just as good of a picture with an upconverting player. Nevermind the fact that audio is 50% of the equation. I had to really bite my tongue to keep from going into a tirade about how wrong she was. |

enough to download to them. I believe true quality is in the disc's and the right hardware. Maybe in fifty year's this will be? Last edited by Q?; 01-24-2009 at 04:11 PM. Reason: maybe I swear too much? |

I don't believe people under estimate blu-ray but feel the upgrade for better PQ/AQ is not needed at this time & their DVD looks good enough for now.
The price difference between blu-ray and DVD also doesn't help persuade them to buy blu-ray at this time. Then, if they have an HDTV smaller than 40", the PQ improvements between blu-ray and a upconverted DVD is not that dramatic. with DVD, they still get to enjoy the movie(story line) regardless of improvement in PQ/AQ detail that comes with blu-ray. Also, many people still use their TV speakers as their primary source of movie audio or a HTiB. It's like some drive a Hyundai and others will drive Cadillac. Both will get you from A to B but one will get you there in style & comfort. I believe possibly this year, if player prices get near $100 and disc prices drop to $19.99 or less as the norm, a lot more people would be willing to give blu-ray a try. Seeing MSRP for discs at Best Buy and other locations for $29-39.99 is sticker shock like the $1000 blu-ray players did to most of us who bought in to blu-ray when player prices dropped in half or less. |
