*sigh* So much for hoping that this film wouldn't rely on extreme violence and gore during the kill scenes. So much for retaining the atmosphere and style of the original film...

It was to be expected. No matter how much you go back to the roots of the original and try to duplicate it, you just can't have a slasher in today's world, without lots of blood and gore. The general audience would hate it.

If there’s a nice blend of atmosphere with gore I think it’ll be fine. Halloween 6 achieved that pretty well.

I think they have more to worry about just doing a good film and get people who liked the series. They are already saying the most popular sequels don't mean crap anymore so I doubt buckets of blood will help. We'll see how it does on release though.

I was so disappointed in that. Ive said it before but slashers should always be rated R. PG-13 should be only for paranormal/supernatural horror movies.

Although I generally agree with you, there was absolutely no reason for Happy Death Day to be rated R. It wouldn't have gained anything by it. And it was fantastic as it was.

Plus, as JLF said, it's got a lot of comedy -- not the something like Scream doesn't. But HDD is just a different kind of movie.

It's still a slasher movie and it's as much of a comedy as any of the Scream movies. No one would ever question their status as slasher movies. Happy Death Day does get pretty dark in some scenes too so it's not just a comedy.

I thought it was great and it did great at the box office hence the forthcoming sequel. The poster I was responding to said audiences would hate a PG13 slasher these days which isn't true.

Not the same thing. Everyone kind of knew going into HDD that it would he tame and funny. It's not even the same type if movie. Ask any general audience member, and they will all tell you they expect lots of people getting stabbed and heads to roll in a Halloween movie.

Too late to move the goal posts now. You said modern audiences would hate a PG13 slasher movie. Happy Death Day is exactly that and did very well

It's not about moving goal posts. It's about making my point. You know what you're getting into when you walk into HDD. And you know what you're getting into when you walk into Halloween. It's like not expecting to see a lot of explosions in a Tranaformers film. It's what the people want.
