Well the first Halloween has virtually no onscreen gore.

That's why I said it wouldn't work in today's world. Back then it worked, but today's general audience expects more.

People always say they love and respect the classics, but a new film comes out that does the same things those did and pays tribute to a particular style of film, people always complain. " it didn't have enough blood." "Nobody died till the last 15 minutes of the movie."...etc.

I'm good if there is gore in this film, because I expect it to happen and I dont mind it. I think as long as they give us the original shape (IE: lots of stalking and appearing/disappearing...etc.) I will be fine with it. Because we haven't seen a lot of that since the original.

Michael Meyers isn’t a human male. Sure, he’s flesh and blood (kinda like the Androids in Blade Runner), but not a normal aging human.
He’s “of hell”, or whatever is quoted about him in the original

How do you know though, you haven't seen the new movie yet. You don't know what direction or explanation they will go with the character.

In the original Halloween (which is the only source canon for the new movie) Myers is not a sociopath. It’s stated as fact. He’s from hell.

He doesn’t have birthdays and age like you and I. Think of him as a demon or whatever helps gets ya through the day. But he’s not like us

He does have a birthday as he was born to human parents.

Hell, Carpenter had to step in and do reshoots w/additonal gore for Halloween II when Rick Rosenthal's original cut was deemed too tame...and that was only three years after the original!

Halloween might not be gory but the kills are brutal and frightening - recognize the difference. A scene can show blood/gore and it can easily come off as cheesy and not frightening. A brutal kill that is violent, direct and uncomfortable can be much more deserving of an R Rating over something just because there is blood.

That said, there is blood in Halloween and also a fair amount of nudity so yes it is a straight up R Rated film and I certainly do not agree that the film would not 'work' in this day and age - obviously Halloween is enjoyed and heralded constantly as the scary horror classic it is even today.

A horror film rated PG-13 is certainly an indicator that the film is light on horror and not particularly frightening or disturbing.

People that defend PG-13 rated horror tend to ignore the fact that a film can be rated R simply because it is frightening and disturbing enough regardless of the amount of gore. Look at a film like The Witch (2015) - not particularly gory but instead rated R for disturbing content. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a classic example.

It wasn’t due to being bullied. The bullying was just a trigger.

I think you’re right that Halloween is rated R due to its brutality and frightening sequences. I don’t think it has anything to do with the nudity, which there’s actually very little of. There are other movies that have nudity from around that time that aren’t rated R, like Weird Sciene which is PG-13 and The Beastmaster which is PG, even though it has an extremely awkward nude scene that looks like it was filmed for a porno, and I believe was actually shown on TV uncensored. Back then nudity was more accepted and violence wasn’t, while now it’s reversed. I think if there was no nudity in the original Halloween and it was made today, it could possibly get a PG-13 rating.

Official MPAA rating:

Halloween (1978)

Rated R for bloodless stabby violence, teen dope smoking, and nice tits.

Plus, as JLF said, it's got a lot of comedy -- not the something like Scream doesn't. But HDD is just a different kind of movie.

Exactly. Happy Death Day wouldn't have been any better with an "R" rating. It was awesome as is. Can't wait for the sequel.

That's amazing. They managed to cast an actor who looks exactly like Michael Myers.

He should wear his glasses over his mask throughout the film.
