The motion on OLED's are more stuttery unless you want to apply some built in algorithm to make it appear less so. And because OLED's are so careful to make sure you don't screw something up, they have ABL, which will change the image on the fly if the processing deems it necessary for the health of the TV.

LCD on the other hand, while it has its own set of issues due to FALD and how it works, doesn't have to worry about any of that stuff. You can get damn impressive black levels in 2018 AND great, bright HDR (and even accurate HDR depending on the model) with virtually none of the 'treat it well or it'll cause screen issues' concerns.

Micro LED will be the perfect middle ground that should be able to deliver the best of both worlds.
I’m going by overall feel here. Movies on OLEDs look like rich beautiful projected film. LCDs never brought that emotion in me. BTW, I don’t see any more banding on my C8 versus any top of the line LCD.

This is all just speculation. We need the experts to pick this unit apart and give us the true insight. I'm not putting the new Z down. It sure sounds like there's some nice new tech inside but I can't help but think they cut back on other things, taking a step back in some areas. The price discrepancy between the new A9 and Z9 is big. There aren't two flagships anymore.

I suspect all talk about pricing is conjecture and guesses at this point.
Hopefully real hardcore specs will accompany srp pricing announcements.

If the 100 zone report is true, my guess would be there's a increase in speed, as each led transitions from on to off. The filter to focus the lights could have been refined.
How the rows and columns are placed can affect performance, and currently the biggest concern for consumers is black bars.

Do we know if the panel size determines the number of zones?

We'll just have to wait to see if the Z9F is a master or a disaster.

This. OLEDs always win best HDR for a reason. The perfect blacks make HDR really pop, it’s not just about nits.

Today, I sat at Best Buy watching an 85" Sony 900F thinking that is one heck of a TV with a fantastic PQ.

I figured the PQ was good enough that a normal guy like me wouldn't really notice the PQ difference between my 75Z9D and an 85X900F. Big is beautiful. I could sell the Z9D which would come close to paying for the 85 incher.

I left Best Buy excited.

As luck would have it, my neighbor, today, received his new 75X900F all broke-in and calibrated by Value Electronic.

I installed the 75X900F, got it running and then I downloaded and played a few Landscape 4K HDR videos from YouTube. Videos I have watched numerous times with my Z9D.

My neighbor was over whelmed with the beauty of the PQ. I was extremely underwhelmed. I had no idea that I would see such a big difference in PQ between the two TVs.

Not in a million years would I now sell off the Z9D to go big with the 900F. And I would never tell my neighbor. He thinks his 900F is beautiful.

I guess once one goes Z9, they can never go back.

I am really excited to see what the Z9F's will do. If it does better than the Z9D, my bank account might be in trouble.

Z9F. German peeks.
We need to see Vincient and Rtings peeks.
Quote:
measurements from the event in germany for the zf9:

- 104 dimming zones
- 1500nits peak brightness
- full screen white around 600-700nits
- panel contrast 2000:1
- color gamut dci around 90%*

- 22ms input lag

- much faster os performance

- great viewing angle (better than zd9)
- more accurate performance for movies than zd9, the aim was it to match the performance of the master monitor and not to produce the brightest tv in the world

- better motion than zd9
90% in quote above.

Z9D tho...
Quote:
this 4K TV also delivers some truly amazing HDR performance. In addition to the brightness and precision backlight control of the Z9D, its HDR color specs for wide color gamut and 10-bit color are downright superb. Nearly 96% of the DCI-P3 color space is faithfully reproduced and colors on the screen are delivered by the Z9D with a complete absence of color banding that’s downright impressive for a full-array backlit 4K TV.
96%

Until I hear otherwise from those who've had the chance to check it out first hand I'm convinced the Z9F is not a worthy upgrade over the Z9D. I'm thinking the A9F would be the way to go if you feel the need to upgrade so quickly.

Again you keep calling me that and I have no idea what it means, and again this obvious sock account is fun.
And 2nd, the drive by is not anti Sony but dropping into a LED thread and just talking about OLED to get people riled up.
But since it's so obvious, nobody would ever get mad

Where did they say they are phasing out LED? Lol
They sell way more than OLED, same as LG sells like under 20% total OLED sets

That’s what I said, I’m waiting on more reviews to make a final judgment. Although that website that measured the low native contrast, and low number of zones, does have a good reputation but it seems maybe the units they tested were not ‘final ones’ and still some sort of prototypes. But again, if that turns out to be true on the final ones, I don’t think such an advanced processor justifies the other relatively low hardware, especially for contrast and color space. It’s 2018 and the other major brands have already achieved 100% of the P3 color space two years ago, even Vizio is now using ~200 zones with greater color volume, and Sony can’t even seem to do that with their own LCD models. Also again, as accurate as the picture might be due to the processing, if the native contrast is that low the picture will suffer, especially in a dark room. You might have more detail in the picture but as much as I’m for accuracy based on creators’ intent, I still like my displays to have some ‘pop’ to them, and a 2000:1 native contrast ratio (combined with 104 zones) will not achieve that. It just doesn’t make sense to sacrifice one aspect of a display (processing) for the another (contrast and color space) if you have both of them already available in such an advanced state that even budget brands are using them already, especially when considering that it is for this brand and on their flagship line.

Again, maybe not so much speculation anymore since that website is reliable, but other websites will hopefully turn out different and better results than that. It’d just be very disappointing if it turns out to be true, pairing such an advanced processing unit with that contrast ratio, color space, and dimming zones. We’ll see.

As it is now. LED isn't going away but micro LED or something similar will eventually replace it, don't you think? I'm sure the same thing will happen to OLED but further down the road.

Micro or mini will 100% help, and whilst grey blacks frustrate me, that's the only issue I have with my Sony (cheap bedroom Philips is fald so that is surprisingly good)
As for OLED I feel like black blacks are the only thing I like.
No matter how Sorny and panfonics try, They are always limited by LG display.
Maybe if sony didnt get out of OLED production, or if they could hurry up with CLED maybe

I dont think LED is going anywhere. I believe they’ll remain in the budget market and have some high end stuff just like now. Micro LED will sort of stand on its own like OLED and compete against that.
