They not being "American" was a big then back then. They took a unquily American property and produced it. No Amercian studio did. There were rumblings back then from the studios who laughed at the Salkind for doing such an "American" film.

The Salkinds were of Eastern European decent. Jewish, and Alexander, the father to Ilya, married a mexican woman. They lived in France at the time of the inception of the project. Ilya speaks 5 languages. They were very unamerican, and it's amazing how the production came out.

That is all very true, but the confusion came from ltb2.0 making an innocuous comment about Canon, and then being hit with this:

My post was unclear. I actually was wondering when they would officially announce it -- so we could be certain of the contents and specs. I guess that would be 4-5 weeks before it comes out.

Yeah, I prefer the extended cut at this point as well so I won't be getting this. On the other hand I am really surprised they are doing Atmos track. I'm sure that will make a lot of folks happy.

I wonder what else will be released in 2018/2019 as far as anniversary tie-ins.

I would imagine that Francis Ford Coppola's "Apocalypse Now" will probably see a 4K UHD release in 2019 to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

Atmos is great news. Hopefully that means that the audio has been remixed from the stems. From memory, a better quality source of John Williams score was located since the creation of the last 5.1 mix.

Kind of surprised to hear that, Bolty. I think the theatrical cut is the best version of S:TM by an absolute mile. I love the gauntlet scene by itself, but having it appear AFTER Lex acknowledges that none of it would hurt Superman was just idiotic. Then there’s Reeve’s suddenly changing hair in he Jor-El scene after his first night...just not as strong of a film overall IMHO. Honestly, the extended cut is my LEAST favorite version. If I want a longer version just to have a version that’s longer, I’ll watch the super long version. If I want the best version as a film, and for the best pacing, I’ll choose the TC every time.

But I have yet to see WB do a branching UHD. Correct me if I'm wrong about that.
I will hold out hope until we get the official announcement, but I am not too optimistic.
