If you were to set the output resolution to, say, 4K for example then yes, those upscaling settings don't mean a thing because the player will output everything at 4K. Original Resolution will output 4K at 4K, 1080p at 1080p and so on. Set it to 1080p and it'll output everything at 1080p. By setting output resolution to Automatic and then fiddling with the upscaling Auto1/Auto2/Off I get the following on my Sony TV: Auto 1: lets 1080p content through at native resolution without scaling, upscales sub-1080p to 1080p. Plays 4K content in 4K. Auto 2: upscales all sub-4K content to 4K. Plays 4K content in 4K. Off: see Auto 1 ------------------------------------------------- But whatever you do, take the in-play Options -> Video Settings out of Auto just as soon as you can! |

I’ve put the video setting on Direct now with the option button. And output resolutions to auto. I was confused because you mentioned “original’. And the auto 1 function works also on an LG Oled ?? |

Added this player to my setup recently but for some reason it always outputs audio tracks to my receiver as PCM instead of DTS-MA or Dolby on blurays? I've tried changing some settings but it still seems to keep doing it. Does anyone know what i'm missing? Not that there is much of a difference but I'd prefer to see what kind of track the bluray has when viewing.

I have a Sony XBR X900E 65" TV. I had a hell of a time figuring out how to get my Xbox One X to have it display on HDR10 mode. Short version was to put cable in HDMI 2 on the TV and go to Home>settings>external inputs>HDMI signal format and change to enhance format. On my Xbox in the display settings I had to change color depth to 10bit and uncheck "Allow YCC 4:2:2". All other options had the check mark.
My Sony UBP-X800 Player is running through my receiver (pass-through) and with the settings I now have on the TV I cannot see (after turning on player) any display coming from the player. The options are screen settings>HDR ouput>auto for 4K are on, Output resolution>Auto. All the other options are pretty much set to auto. I turned off the option for HDR output and I cannot see the player menu screen (black) but I can now see the movie play. (I had a movie that I had started and asked me if I wanted to continue.) Now all in between this hardware I have a Denon AVR X3200 receiver and it's set for pass-through. Anyone have any suggestions for watching this player in 4K HDR10? If I remove the settings on my TV for enhanced format I can see every thing just fine. If I press the info button on the remote it says that it is displaying in 4K HDR. So I'm thinking of just running another cable, one for audio to receiver and the other one to HDMI 1 to the TV where this input does not have the enhanced mode option. |

I had an audio dropout on a WB Blu-ray the other day, and when I tried changing the Digital Audio Output from Auto to PCM, it played perfectly. I've had audio dropouts with 4K discs, and fiddling with other audio settings made those go away. This was my first with a BD. I've had so many audio drops with this player when I could count on one hand the amount I had before I upgraded to 4K. Any idea why the Digital Audio Output being on Auto would cause an issue?

Does that mean there’s nothing I can do to fix the choppy audio when streaming from the apps on the player?

I don't have choppy audio. It's not SUPPOSED to be choppy. I think the point more is that streaming apps on disc players tend to be simplified or outdated and that could cause problems on certain equipment.
