The Thing

I like monster films better than slasher films. Halloween is his second best, but I like his kitschy films too like Big Trouble in Little China and Vampires. yes, I know they are terrible, but that is why I like them.

Halloween. The score, the atmosphere, Michael Myers, Jamie Lee and Donald....one of the best horror movies ever.

After that, I'd say The Thing followed by the Fog. Love the score on the Fog as well.

The Thing and Dark Star tie for first place.

The two very close runners up are; Assault on Precinct 13 and Escape From New York

Ooh that's a hard one for me as I have been watching these films for years and I have the soundtracks to all four !!!

"The Fog". It may have been one of Carpenter's least favorite films to make, but there is something about the atmosphere in that film that he never recreated so well in any other. The small seaside town feel is perfect, the music is unforgettable and haunting, and the ensemble performances were all very real, despite some silly stuff about glowing fog happening on screen.

Usually any film where 40% had to be re-shot after principle photography had wrapped is one to avoid at all cost. But Carpenter pulled this one out of it's nose dive and went on to create what I believe is (accidentally) the best film of his career.

Halloween. Never has a movie sent chills down my spine with suspense. It's the only movie that still to this day scares the daylights out of me. The music alone creeps me out.

Halloween would be my fave of his. Still a classic (unlike most of it's sequels). Just love everything about it. The feel of it, and it may be my fave film score. next would be The Thing, FX wise, it still stands up today, I haven't had the pleasure of watching it on Blu, but hope to very soon....

The Thing & Big Trouble in Little China are tops. Big Trouble just amuses the hell out of me....The Thing is one of the scariest of all time....

Default Big Trouble in Little China (1986)

Someone explain to me Big Trouble in Little China? I find the film strange and not altogether there. What is the appeal? The shear simplicity of it or what?

I mean I like Russell and Carpenter together. But the film doesn't quite....
