He made 3 good films:

Escape from New York
The Thing
Big Trouble in Little China

the rest have all been blah...yes yes I know the Original Haloween is considered a classic but my god haw terrible the acting is..I tried to watch again this past Halloween and I could not get through it. How this film has not aged well at all.

IMO anything from 1976 (Assault) to 1987 (They Live) he made falls under greatness. Anything afterwards, while not great is still better than most stuff put out by other directors.

Escape From New York is one of my favorite movies... it was such a cool thing when I was 10, and luckily it has held up for me over the years.

Escape From NY
The Thing
Starman
Halloween
The Fog

I also enjoy
Big Trouble in Little China
Prince of Darkness
They Live
Assault on Precinct 13
and even Escape From L.A., despite its shortcomings

I forgot about Starman. I had no idea Carpenter had anything to do with it. Jeff Bridges rocks.

Big Trouble in Little China is great. However EFNY, They Live, and Halloween should be placed above it. I think it's only slightly overrated, but still a good movie.

Halloween deserves the atmost respect. Why my uncle let me see that when I was 9, I really couldn't say. I do remember crying, and having trouble sleeping for many weeks. Scariest movie I probably remember seeing.

"Escape from L.A." scope
The more things change. The more the stay the same.
"They Live" scope

"Big Trouble In Little China" scope
It’s all in the reflexes
"Starman" scope
Take it easy. Up yours
"Christine" scope

"Village Of The Damned" scope

Seen on VHS PAL
"Memoirs of an Invisible Man" pan&scan

Surely, you jest.

My favorite is The Thing. His most overlooked IMO, is Christine. That movie doesn't get enough love. Great character study.
