Next Stop Greenwich Village is an endearing film. Paul Mazursky was a humanist like Truffaut and Allen. I've known people who are just like these characters. I'd forgotten just how intense those acting workshops scenes are. "Underneath all that poise, there's just more poise." It makes me feel homesick.
Now that Twilight Time has released Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969), Next Stop Greenwich Village (1976) and Moscow On the Hudson (1984), perhaps they will rescue two more of Paul Mazursky's romantic dramas from oblivion -- Blume In Love (1973) and An Unmarried Woman (1978). |

Blume in Love is with Warners, but An Unmarried Woman is Fox so it's at least plausible

While it isn't held in the highest esteem, still surprised it took 3 years and a number of sales to sell out. Glad I got a copy, but also don't expect this one to gain much popularity on the used market down the road. You can get new copies for under $20 shipped on ebay. That's basically what it cost from TT on the $15 sales if buying a single title due to the shipping structure.

On to other things, sometimes it can be frustrating being a Canadian blu-ray collector. Orders can take weeks to arrive, tracking numbers don't always work and you have to worry about Customs fees on large orders, especially now that Screen Archives marks the full amount on the declaration tags. Well I was pleasantly surprised when the order I put in one week ago of four titles plus the signed copy of Baby Boom that shipped on Monday arrived today and without any Customs fees! Five days turnaround is unheard of around these parts for this type of package. It was so unexpected, I'm going to rethink my viewing plans for tonight so I can watch my long awaited copy of The Hot Rock. |

I avoid CAN transactions when ever possible as that wait can be way too stressful. I've never been hit with customs fees on the US side, but try to keep any order under $200 that crosses a border. At least they are willing to ship to CAN. I stopped doing so a few years ago out of frustration with the Postal System cross boarder. Jus wasn't worth the hassle. |

TT does not deal with Warners. To my knowledge, they had a one off with Oliver Stone's "Heaven and Earth".

I mentioned this film in another thread needing help with the title since I haven't seen it years. I hope Twilight or even Powerhouse releases it at one point in the future.

Twilight Time doesn't do horror for the most part, so I don't see THE MAD ROOM coming from them. Indicator is a better possibility. However, I think that Mill Creek is a more likely destination, given their upcoming release of SHADOW OF THE HAWK/NIGHTWING.
I'd love to buy THE MAD ROOM on Blu-ray, and hope that Indicator considers it. |

Twilight Time tried horror with Christine, Fright Night, Night of the Living Dead (1990), The Blob (1988), John Carpenter's Vampires, and 10 to Midnight. I think it was obvious that their model, while fine for the titles they usually get (niche catalog films from the 40s-90s), doesn't really work for cult horror titles. Horror and anime have huge dedicated fanbases that seem to have embraced Blu-ray more than fans of most other genres.

A list of titles in the collection I wouldn't even want. However titles that sell out in less than a year at full price like some of those were, I'm sure they work for the label just fine. |

With that said, there are already many labels releasing horror, so I'm kind of glad TT has moved away from that (Not sure if it's by choice or not). I appreciate that TT releases a lot of fairly obscure 50s/60s/70s comedies and dramas along with some film noir and Westerns, with some 80s and 90s titles thrown in as well. Every month, I'm consistently surprised with what they release. |

I think if a title sells out quickly, it’s proof that the model doesn’t work for that film because they couldn’t meet demand. To compare, Scream Factory’s limited edition steelbooks usually have 10,000 copies printed, meaning their standard editions of those films will probably sell plenty more units than that. Major cult horror films like Christine, Fright Night, Night of the Living Dead (1990), and The Blob (1988) will sell far more than the 3,000 or 5,000 or 8,000 units TT gave them, especially for sale on Amazon. Christine’s reissue from Sony clearly sold enough to warrant a 4K UHD release. If a title takes a year or more to sell out, then I guess the model works for it (but it is a bit of a shame if there’s people that want the title on Blu-ray after it sells out).
